Why the silence in the world about this?:

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2004-10-05-mideast_x.htm

    From the article:

The Palestinians pushed for the quick adoption of a U.N. Security Council resolution demanding an end to the massive Israeli thrust into the Gaza Strip, despite opposition by the United States.

U.S. Ambassador John Danforth said Monday another Security Council resolution was not the answer and admonished the council which he said "acts as the adversary of the Israelis and cheerleader to the Palestinians."

Are you kidding me?? cheerleader for the Palestinians? Well so much for the US being a fair negotiator between Israel and Palestinians

With this administration and the climate they have nurtured this is simply par for the course (next month perhaps that can be changed)

People are tired of the israeli/palestine debacle.

It won't change next month. What do you know of Kerry's stances on the conflict?

Maybe everyone is ignoring it now hoping it will just go away.

No I realize it won't change next month one way or the other but right now there is zero movement on the issue of getting isreal to cede an inch, which it must do in the end if it truly wants peace. I am kind of hoping that it can't get any worse if Kerry is elected (not exactly ringing with hope I know).

    Carter did something... barely...
and since him no other president was able to do shit, except fuck Israel over:
    *Raegan
    *Bush Sr.
    *Clinton
    *Clinton again
    *Bush jr

Kerry, who is no leader, will not solve anything.
from what I've seen, he's pretty pro-Israel. but he also wants to "pass the global test" (??) and make friends with all the terrorist nations in the world.
how is he supposed to make a stand? i don't know...
    anyway,

as for the latest operation against "Palestinian" terror, it's a farce, as usual.
the PLO representative of a make-believe country called "Palestine" said that
and the useful-idiot Colin Powell wanted more of a proportionate reaction:
proportionate... ok, how about this: the IDF will set up rocket launchers on the green line, aim them blindly into "Palestinian" kindergartens and homes, and shoot away (after all, it's about liberation... in the words of most of the Arabs in the UN, [i'm paraphrasing]: the process of national liberation should not be included in the definition of terrorism).

so, Sharon the Criminal, stop looking for terrorists. do something proportional for once: set up rocket launchers and indiscriminantly fire into population centres.

    [link: http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/485435.html]

as for my personal opinion, this Israeli operation is illegal. mostly because it is contrary to the UN's decisions and actions.
Israel is undermining UN interests, you see. [more Coffee don't like it.

meanwhile, the head of UNWRA candidly admits that UN employs hamas-members, and that there's nothing criminal about it.

i think the UN bldg should be raided for there are WMDs in plain sight all over the place

Obviously the UN wants everyone to solve their problems diplomatically, but that isn't always possible. Israel has a right to defend itself.

Otheadp, we shouldn't make light of Clinton's efforts towards peace, they were considerable.

    surenderer,
Since violence against Israel isn't state-sponsored, what kind of resolution would make any difference? Organizations like Hamas aren't members of the United Nations.

moreover, the NGOs that consistently have slammed Israel for everything, say that suicide bombings and sniping little babies in their strollers aren't even qualified as crimes against humanity because it's not state sponsored.

as for the UN resolutions against Israel,
    1) it shows you how institutionally and structurally flawed the UN is
    2) the UN, collectively as an organization, should be ashamed of itself for having such disproportionate quantity and quality of resolutions against one member alone.
i won't bother with listing other members' crimes and UN's responses WRT to the violations or violators... you can find all out for yourself
you'd have to be blind to not see discrimination, singling out, and demonization
whipping boys are useful, especially in today's world

the thing is, the current UN, with its current members, and its current structure, is an organization which is obsolete, inadequate, and not only useless, but is harmful. it has outlived its usefulness in many ways
it may have been useful 50 years ago, but not today

as for being the judge, it has neither the authority nor the objectivity since all members involved are interesants. i.e. they have interests of their own in every resolution they vote on, which automatically makes them biased

someone keeps saying that Israel continues to "violate international law"
the Arab/Muslim voting block comes up with a GA resolution condemning this or that, and Israel then ignores that resolution, that constitutes a "violation of international law", doesn't it.
or if US vetoes one of those SC resolutions, then Israel is also guilty? (because we all know that US's veto doesn't really count.. right?)

well, i say fuck the UN because they employ Hamas members - and that surely don't make them objective - and they surely don't hold veto power of the security of Israeli citizens and state

yes but crazy Jewish settlers repeatedly killing, attacking, persecuting and vandalising Pali property arent counted either except in the cases when the soldier support them or watch idly by.

Why are you bitching so much about how bad the UN is Otheadp and Spider Goat since Israelis repeatedly use the UN to legitimise themselves.

And the UN has to focus on Israel since it created it, its members support it, Israel is a member, and the most powerful UN member is supporting it. Also it is a "democracy". Also right and wrong decisions in Israel can affect the entire region and already there have been 5 wars over that cursed stain on the map called Israel so it is vital the UN focuses on Israel. And then of course there is the personal UN beef as Israel has shown serious violence to the UN staff in Israel.

Not aswell that the same can be said about Israel. Why is it focusing so much on Arabs and ignore the Jews??

I'm not saying the UN is bad, it provides countries with an outlet for expression, and the means to negotiate peacefully if they so chose, with international legitimacy. Would we really want a strong, effective UN? I think not, it would mean that dissenting opinions get drowned out in favor of unity, and we all know the world is full of contrasting opinions. We need an international forum, even if it's usefullness is limited.
