So what would happen if Hurricane Ivan hits New Orleans? It is below sea level. Would you leave or stay?
Looks like Ivan will make landfall to the east of New Orleans. Even so, with a large tidal surge and heavy rain we can expect very serious flooding. A direct hit would most likely put most of the city under 20ft of water...... http://www.usatoday.com/weather/hurricane/2004-09-14-new-orleans-storm_x.htm
I was told by a person not to far from the area that has heard news reports of a 50-ft wave coming inland....
well, much less eventful, it's already downgraded to tropical storm, with max 70MPH winds. Sounds like some may have died in Alabama; lots of damage, but at least its not a 155MPH overland mega-storm lke they were suggesting... http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000087&sid=aFCNgdu1dVd0&refer=top_world_news now to prep for Jeanne.
hurricane Ivan hit the island on the 10th of september 2004 we were being sent home from school on the 9th i was on the other side of the island, i got home safe. it was totally calm untill about 1 mid-day i was about to board the finnal transport to go home. it was something to remember, my family and the rest of the island was patiantly awaiting the hurricane. anyway it came and hit, distroyed alot of ground provisions, brought down light posts, created landslides in the country parts of the island. the eye of the strom almost past directly over one of our major tourist capital. but when it was over not much people lost much because my family lost nothing. i guess we are some of the lucky ones.
if the hurricane was to hit anywhere again it wouldnt be that bad, it all depends on the category it is in.
