dude, you take this stuff (fantasy/sci-fi) WAY too seriously. Most of the people that bother to reply in these threads (like myself) are fans, we read these books... you seem to miss that important point. "Are dwarfs hermaphrodites?" "Are hobbits gay?" Those are obviously ridiculous questions. I can't believe you'd actually respond (unless you're making a joke like everyone else).
If people aren't expected to respond, what is the point of having the thread? It doesn't particularly influence my own life whether or not anyone knows accurate physiology on LOTR races...

Let me guess... paella? Oysters? Kiwi fruit? (I have an uncle who is severely allergic to kiwi fruit.) He did borrow a lot of names from Norse Mythology: Middle-Earth (Midgard), Mirkwood, Durin... Not to mention that Tolkien's Valar (Gods) were more like the Norse than the Greek or Roman, especially since the latter 2 pantheons didn't include any really evil deities.
