Not true. I know several people that have flunked out of uni./ dropped out of school and fell into rewarding and prosperous careers, mostly in business and IT. Go Trippin'. You know you want to.

Wait after and possibly miss the chance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why can't you go after college, why would you have missed the chance???? Do they chain you to a concrete block, when you leave college??
No.. But employers will look at your employment history.. When you finish college, you are no longer a student. Thus employers want stability and expect you to have started work straight after college. Whereas, before you start college you are still a student (even if you are in a gap year, as its called in Britain). So it doesn't matter what you do.
I want to revive this because its been ~1.5 years since I posted it. Looking at the poll, its extremely close: 7 for go. 5 for don't go. and 6 for wait. A lot of stuff has happened in the last year and a half to me, yet I still have this self inflicted dilemma to deal with. I've worked it out with my parents, and they wouldn't actively stop me from going nor would they hold any grudges towards me for delaying or possibly not going to college. They aren't happy about it, but at least they can accept it. It'd be interesting to see what the poll will show this time. It's basically tied between the options, and I'm curious to see how the sciforum's opinion has changed over the last year and a half. A lot of new members have come, and a lot of "high profile" members have left. So that's the reasoning for bringing this back. And I appreciate all the people who left truthful, meaningful criticism or advice.
it is never too late to go anywhere. I will go to south america in october until my money runs out. I'm 34. It is just about making choices. You only stop having choices when you stop making them.
simple put it's your life, grazzhoppa. do what you wish to, you can always go to college after, cant you. I bummed around europe, in the late seventys and early eightys loved it, I have no regrets. my dad was'nt happy, but he understood, some dont, but they come around.
Nothing's better than seeing the world's fattest country for yourself. Don't miss this opportunity, because for me, it is only something I can only dream of doing. Take advantage of the opportunity.
What the heck have you been doing for the past year and a half? If you waited this long to decide, you probably decided not to go and you should put it behind you. Is your friend still clean? Is your father still working hard to support your education? I have something to say about “choices” and “opportunities”. The choice or opportunity to do something nice for someone you love (and that loves you) greatly outweighs the choices you do to satisfy your selfish needs. Some of us “choose” to go to school and make our parents proud. Some of us “choose” to get a job, get married, have kids (or how some of you would put it, loose our freedom). I agree that if you pass on traveling the country, you will probably loose that opportunity of a lifetime but let me tell you, making the decision to travel will cost you other opportunities.
I was getting my high school diploma in the year and a half that has past since I first posted this here, and I still have a year to go until I finish high school. My dad, in fact, was fired from his job in the time that has past but we are doing well. The plan was to go at the end of high school, and there is still time. dsdsds, I like your perspective on choices and opportunities and I haven't considered that view with the weight of other ways I've had to look at the situation. Yet I do think that my selfish needs are paramount, even over my family and the peope that love me.
well what is the point in getting a degree and a job if you cant enjoy youself, do what you want and see how it turns out. why not do this last insane crazy thing before you settle down and get your life on track
