The only reason why this doesn't work is because most people wouldn't be comfotable enough to be that intimate in the early stages of a relationship. Most people think about it the inverse way. They increase intimacy as they get to know each other better. Of course, if you suddenly have sex with someone, you will probably feel much more comfortable being yourself in front of that person, but most people apparently can't do that. Besides, it is also a matter of trust. I think most people would be afraid to have sex with someone that they don't know very well yet....
