I consider myself very smart when it comes to Middle Earth. I am asking for a challenge, try to stump me with some trivia, books or movies. Have fun.

    You asked for it...

Give three name/titles for Sauron's original master.

Name the last king of Numenor and the lands to which he, fatefully, sailed, under the influence of Sauron.

Name the mother of all spiders.

Which of the Valar liked wrestling?

    Name Feanor's father and brothers.

What was the name of the hidden city, the last elven city of old to fall?

Name one of the first dwarf settlements with which the elves (ruled by the sons of Feanor and their cousins) traded.

    The Witch kingdom of what?

What island lies closest to the Western Lands?

    LOL, zero?

Sadly, I actually used to know the answers to most of those questions. If you had asked me a few years ago I might have been able to answer most of them.

    Who was Nieniel?

What is the meaning of the quenyan word "alqua"?

In which year was Celebrian attacked by orcs?

Who played Celeborn in the film version of LOTR: FOTR?

What happened to each of the silmarils?

From which (and whose) opera did Tolkien derive much inspiration and ideas?

After whom was Bill the Pony named? (this is an easy one, I know)

Who should have rescued Frodo instead of Arwen in FOTR according the book? (another hideously easy one)

    Here's one.

Who was Frodo's first gay lover?

(Hint, he had a total of 482743839 of them. Because Middle Earth is so gay.)

according to the books there was no description of wings, but that doesn't tell us wether or not balrogs can fly. So can they fly? Since we can't bring JRR back to life, we'll never know for sure.

bombadil is a yellow booted ancient (he's basically a male version of mother nature but on a small scale).

This is sad. Gondolin came out to impress everyone with his leet LOTR skillz and now he's run away without answering a single question? LOL!

By the way, "What was the name of the hidden city, the last elven city of old to fall?" If he can't answer that one then I wonder where he came up with his name from?

If Balrogs could fly, why did the one in Moria fall down that chasm when Gandalf broke the bridge from under it? I know it was seen to fly briefly in Ralph Bakshi's animated LOTR film, but I doubt very much that Tolkien intended them to fly.

In A Tolkien Bestiary by David Day, Bombadil was tentatively identified as one of the Maiar - like Sauron, Melian, and the Wizards. After all, he claimed to be older than all the Children of Illuvatar, and to remember "the first raindrop and the first acorn."

In case Gondolin ever does bother to pick up his thread again, here's my question:
What are the earliest known names Tolkien used for Morwen, Nienor and Melian?

David Days work is full of mistakes. Like saying that Sauron had no physical form and was the 'eye', a rookie mistake.

A simple question you have to ask yourself about Tom being a Maia: why was Tom not affected by the ring if he was a Maia? After all Gandalf, Saruman and even Sauron himself, were drawn to it.

Some once proposed that Tom was Illuvatar.
I am not sure; I think Tolkien himself may've denied or discouraged this.

Sauron manifesting a disembodied eye - in the 3rd Age - is the impression that was quite obviously adopted by Peter Jackson and his army of filmmakers; if it was a mistake, I fear it has now settled firmly into public canon.

I know Tolkien described Sauron's various humanoid forms from the 2nd Age, but said nothing of how he incarnated himself after losing the One Ring. (Or did he?)

Not all Maiar had to be similar in temperament or inclination. Sauron obviously cared about the Ring, having made it; as for the Wizards, they were chosen to go to Middle-Earth because they were peers of Sauron, and understand his way of thinking. All those centuries obsessing over their enemy, and the Rings of Power, would surely have coloured their emotions when the One finally turned up.

But Bombadil had lived quietly in Eriador since long before any of the Rings were forged. His mind and habits were tied to the Elder Days, and new influences did not concern him.

I hope you meant Gondolin and not yours truly, my friend!

"In his actual presence none but very few of equal stature could have hoped to withhold it from him. Of 'mortals' no one, not even Aragorn. In the contest with the Palantír Aragorn was the rightful owner. Also the contest took place at a distance, and in a tale which allows the incarnation of great spirits in a physical and destructible form their power must be far greater when actually physically present. Sauron should be thought of as very terrible. The form that he took was that of a man of more than human stature, but not gigantic. In his earlier incarnation he was able to veil his power (as Gandalf did) and could appear as a commanding figure of great strength of body and supremely royal demeanour and countenance" (Letter No. 246)

    There's the elusive quote.
