who buys the s/w most for microsoft? i think its an average home pc user who wants to view internet, share pics etc. This 'Bloatware' is what they like, that is why they buy it...Times can only change if computer literacy amongst those average users increases, and that requires time...And by that time i Msoft would have already taken such a lead that it would be difficult to catch up with, such is its dominance in current market scenario...
Off course some Jealous people can try Lawsuits...

    bye!

no, its something to do with Sun, but the windows rotasion escapes me. Do you mean the angling of the windows in the SS's ?

many of the things in Longhorn is seen before in other OS's

(heh long horny, me love you long time)

Looks like somebody at MS has been tooling around with OSX. Not that that's a bad thing.

    Kunax,
you may be right, at least we'll have one 'decent' os, despite my hate for microsoft, I just hate to see someone 'borrow' something from someone and not give him the credit for it

Zion, you have to take into account that in the 1950's computers weren't thought of as existing in every home and programmers were Professors with Phd's and a long list of credentials to boot.

Nowadays the PC is in the home and every "Kid" can get a hold of a text editor and start programming. Programming has evolved quite far when you think about it, and to knock it's evolution as generating computer literate people is silly because of the speed of evolution we are now trying to contend with.

Darwin never really clocked a species trying to keep up with it's own technological turn around time.

I don't think Windows is the best, ti would be a lot better is it was open source but you guys are a little hard on Windows....

I think that Microsoft should make an open source Linux-like OS.

You seem to miss the entire point behind anti-MS hatred here.

Microsoft will never put out anything competent as open source. They're just out to make a shitload of money by strong-arming the market, brutally destroying all competition by cheap tricks like integrating Windows Media Player and Internet Explorer into their operating system, keeping all sorts of secrets about their operating system so that they can make their own MS products work much faster in Windows than competitors' products, et cetera.

Microsoft will NEVER go open source because it would undermine their entire brutal market strategy. They would never do anything that would even give competitors a glimmer of a chance.

We're not being "a little hard" on Windows. It's bloated, it's fat, it's slow, it's unstable, it's incompetent, it's forcing the entire world to conform, it's annoying, it treats the user like an idiot, it's got so many security holes it's already been torn three new asses by half-assed virus strains, and the list goes on.

Microsoft should've been broken up into smaller companies like Bell. The idiocy of the bloatedly-huge-business friendly administration let it live without so much as a smack on the wrist. That antitrust lawsuit didn't do jack to it, it basically said "anything goes, Gates, so carry on and go on doing whatever the hell you want" wrapped up in legal schmumbo.

What I want to know is if Longhorn comes with anti-piracy "we can install anything on your computer whenever the fuck we want" TCPA-type policeware installed inside it.

Although we complain about windows being bloatware, you have to take into consideration if you make a bloated system thats resource hungry the hardware developers have to increase the amount of resources available. So even if everyone treats it as a piece of crap, it has help towards keeping the speed of technology up.
(However the speed of technology also means the speed of obseletion and potentially you kicking yourself for going out and buying a graphics card thats out of date and reduced by the next week)

Even if I cared about the eye-candy, I would find my GNU/Linux nicer than LH...
I bet they still don't have a good shell...
