Add spikes to the gloves...remove gloves...implant spikes into knuckles...

I swear that's got to be a paradox of some sort...

Boxing is a primitive sport which should be outlawed in many countries except Cornwall.

Two men trying to beat each other unconscious... what's not to like?

Certainly there are sports with a very clear higher injury or deaths-per-participants ratio. Motorcycle racing is one that springs to mind. No one gives a damn for Reinhold Roth, the former world vice-champion in the 250cc class, who leads a life as a vegtable after sustaining head inuries that even made the doctor treating him barf up his dinner. Wayne Rainey, Jack Middleburg, Christian Leon... so many well-known drivers that either died or find themselves in a wheelchair.

I'm of the opinion that whatever two adults decide to do is their own business. But make no mistake - boxing is a barbaric sport where there is intent to injure your opponent, and fans who cheer are celebrating the injury of another human being. No thanks.

    :m: Peace.

I think boxing isn't going to get any better. Many poeople today don't want to go to watch people beat the shit out of each other. People want to be entertained other ways, like Las Vegas Casinos with all the shows they put on as well as Atlantic City and their shows. Many people today are buying PC's to play games with at home also. Movies are a big money making event that is still very popular as well as theater and music events. There are many other events that families enjoy as well as singles that I'm not listing here but I'm sure you know about them. I just don't see boxing as making a strong comeback anytime soon. Good luck to you and keep your guard up!

I`ve had a few boxing matches. The freaky thing is, it does`nt hurt a bit whilst your fighting. You don`t feel anything, you just wonder why your head is bouncing from side to side, and eventully you here your coach/second shouting at you to keep your guard up! Dunno about anybody else, but the hardest thing is getting aggresive with somebody you don`t know, who has`nt upset you at all. You have to get wound up so you can try to smash ten shades of shit out of him. Nearly worked, i lost on points

Then you end up like Mohamed Ali who has difficulty trying to think. Those punches add up on destroying your brain cells and it will take a devestating toll on your mental health over the years.

I don`t think the odd bout does that much damage. I am talking about amatuer stuff here, three rounds of two mins.I do have a lot of respect for pro boxers tho, they are so fit. I used to consider myself very fit, i was a respectable gymnast. I ended up having a training session with a pro boxer for about half an hour. His work rate was amazing. But your probably right,he`s no doubt a jelly head now.

    Yeah, boxing is cool.
Kicks HAVE to be allowed to bring it to the 'next level'.
Knee strikes, elbowstrikes, joint locks should be included too.

Boxing management, and the gaming association won't allow any changes however. They are protecting their baby. Did you see the stink about temporary tatoos that they threw last year? Sad. There are more Thai Kwon Do schools in USA than boxing clubs.

ISKA and PKA freestyle bouts are fun to watch, when you can find them. The whole trend of pay-per-view has killed boxing. Fuck Don King.

Diggstown was on the other day. They had 2 of the nations best martial artists in the flick, hardly used them. couldn't find them in the credits on the internet either. American boxing is an inferior fighting style that has to disallow any other fighting style to maintain its standing.

Just reread your post Nick. You're a boxer? What info are you looking for? Training tips? Which style is best? I used to train 6 hours a day in several disciplines, perhaps I could help.

You're right, boxing does kill brain cells. Take Cassius Clay for example, he became a muslim.

Boxing is boring compared to pretty much any other fighting style. Plus, being so restricted, it encourages blows to the head, which is pretty stupid. Boxing rounds lasting three minutes is farcical. Real fights don't have breaks, and are over in less than a minute. Well, all of mine have been. Last guy I fought lasted eight seconds.

I only watch K1, or Ultimate Combat. Went to see UC-9 in the UK a couple of months ago, which was pretty cool, as the guy that trains my Kung Fu instructor in groundwork was fighting, as were two of his other students. All of them won, longest bout was 1min23, shortest 22secs.

we ALL know that the next stage for boxing is full body armour, then equipping every guy with guns and then putting them in arenas to fight to the death. it could be used to control violence among miners.

i thought that up all by myself.

I used to box when I was a kid...but I've gone off watching it. Gone are the days of the 'character' boxing, like Marciano, who was a joy to watch, or the showmanship of Ali. Lennox Lewis and Tyson before him as good as they are, were dull as buggery, not sure about the next level, maybe knuckle dusters.

Boxing in America can be a euphamism for all fighting styles.

When I was fighting it was much easier to say to strangers, aquaintences that I was a boxer, that to get get into it with the uneducated. "oh, you mean karate, break me a brick"

phlog- Of course, it's a sport with rules. Real fights don't have protective gear, or rules. Are the fight's your refering to against novices, and were there rules? Maiming even a skilled fighter is easy, without rules or weapons. If you fought in the ring and you beat a guy in 8 seconds your opponent was inept, if you fight outside a ring you're a fool or a bully or both.(speaking as a recovered foolish bully myself) Have you ever had a pick-up fight for money? I have. There's a real test of survival and skill.

Before boxing was a sport in america bare-fisted fights went over 200 rounds(recordsetter) It was bloody. It wasn't over till the opponent was finished.(can no longer stand up) Common bets were what round his nose gets broke and who'll be the first to lose teeth. These guys didn't quit, many won or starved, many won or died.

To all you anti-boxers- Fighting is a great sport! Two trained atheletes, of similar size and skill, put there training to the test. No coaches or team, just one on one going for the prize. Nobody wearing jewlery, no excuses, just who's better. I don't see how anybody could knock it. Many things 'cause loss of brain cells, drugs, tv, factory work, US school system. Not a reason to not enjoy a great sport.

    Hey Nick,

Sounds like you're an american boxer. Are you looking to compete? How old are you? When you say 'I spa' what do you mean? What is your work-out schedule like?

In general you should ask yourself what you want from the experience? You already have the benefits of 2 yrs. training. You've probably become self-assure, In-shape, know how to defend yourself and expanded your base of friends. These are all the best benifits of any self-defence program.

If you want to compete, you will have to seriously kick up your training a few notches. How much time can you commit? Without knowing some of the above preliminaries it's sort of hard to advise.

In general, don't focus on isolating muscle groups. Mix it up. Arms/ chest one day, legs the next, heavy one day , light the next, abs everyday. Everyother day road work. One day/2 wk Maxout. Get 8 hrs sleep, balanced diet, drink plenty of water, stay off drinking and smoking, When injured, allow healtime.

I'm assuming you know all the preliminaries about weight training. Are you sparring with the pro? He should have a ton of good info if he's really an x-pro. You can overtrain so caution. If you're not locked into boxing, check out some local martial-artists to round out your fighting knowledge.

Thats about all on short info. Oh, heres one- soak your wraps in fabric softener for a few hours and wash before wear.

    Hope this helps.

Define with absolute clarity why you want to become the best boxer you can be.
And why you will take nothing short of death to acheive this.
Put it into a single paragraph, memorize it and say it out loud with all of the emotion and conviction you can muster with every waking moment.
    Become single minded in purpose.
Continually seek out those with the skills you require.
Always hang around those who are more talented than you.
    Quit fucking around.
Last fight I had lasted 1 second.
    1 punch.
    God I love that.

    p.s. He started it.

    Elite...!

whats up man. I want to compete. Ive learned all the basics, i can dodge most punches as if its instinct. I lift every other day, but im trying to do it more. I 164 lbs and its not alllll muscle but im in very good shape... Yes i do train with the X pro he comes from Barbados. He hurt himself in america deadlifting too much. He had fought in the pros for a little while and went like 16 and 0. Losing one fight in amature boxing. Hes a very laid back man and not hard on me. He never lifted a weight in his life so hes very iffy about weights.

Im very invloved with many other sports so its hard. Im sure youve heard of Patrnelies Gym in Brockton Massachusetts. Thats where my coach trained. Marvin Hagler, the white guy (lol) trained there.

Boxing is fun and im seemily good at it. I can take a lot of hits when i do get hit. Your help is anything but a blessing so please HELP HELP HELP!

    thanks man
