Dune. Blade runner and fith element are pretty good too. Of coarse the book versions of movies based on books are always much better than the hollywoodised facimile.

Dune, the 80's version with Sting, was just bad 80's rubbish. The mini-series was far superior and I like to class that as an extended movie...as do the makers. I liked the mini-series very much.

eXisTanZ (spelt wrong, i know) The older Star Wars. the new ones, while still good, are more Holliwoodised/Familyisd Fifth Element was good. Not a movie, but The series Stargate was brilliant for the first few series. So was Farscape and Buffy, for that matter Oh yeah, Flatliners was brilliant
I would have to say the best sifi movie would have to be either the 5th element, or Aliens, not to be confused with Alien, but those are the two I think. Also to note, I do like the Thing, it is a very good suspensful movie, and ranks up there with some of the top ones.

You know what!!! even though it isn't considered the top in any list, it is one movie I can find myself watching again and again and not get tired of. I guess it works in the sense that it fullfills the first criteria of movies perfectly: Entertainment. Great movie and Milla Jovovich was drop dead sexy in the movie. Why wasn't Jesus a hot woman like her?...I could have gotten on board with religion then.
I agree with most of the choices(in no particular order): Matrix Jurassic Park(1&2 but definately not 3) Star Wars(the original 3) Bladerunner Fifth Element Independance Day Back to the future(i liked them all) Deep Impact Terminator(the 2nd one wasnt so great) Alien Ressurection(i may be wrong about this one but i remember one of the newer ones was really good) Stargate Mars Attacks And i'll add: Evolution MIB Sphere Contact And if it lives up to expectations Red Dwarf the movie, but for now evolutions best.

Bladerunner is a heavy-concept movie full of morality and subtle meaning: good if you want to feel worthy and sententious, but not if you just want a fun time! You have to be in a certain mood to watch it.

Everyone has their favorite(s) Scifi movie.......I think some of the best were made back in the 50's, like "Forbidden Planet", "War Of The Worlds", Conquest of Space" and "The Thing".........or even better yet was "The Day The Earth Stood Still".........It's still hard to beat those early Scifi movies considering they didn't have the special effects technology that are used today to create the aliens, space monsters, neat looking futuristic space ships & etc, etc......
