  1. What do you mean by religious signs ? Muslim women DONT advertise Islam by wearing the Hijab, it is a MUST for them.

and since we are at religious signs, shall we ban everyone who is wearing the CROSS as nicklace or putting this small jewish hat on his head from entering schools and government buildings as well??

GIVE IT UP MAN, you can wear whatever you wish, this is a matter of PERSONAL CHOICE, it is not anyone business.

To do with what then ?

Now France's Chirac is recoiling counterproductively too.

If Western societies continue xenophobic trends to the point of abhoring and legislating against the very sight of practicing Muslims, we're in deepening trouble. Although I think Islam, Christianity, and Judaism are flawed and destructive belief systems, I know that discrimination leads only to greater and self-perpetuating divisiveness and disaster.

What's the difference between a hijab and a burkha?

"Hijab", or "concealment" is the Islamic practice of various degrees of modest dress, and also some use this word to generically name articles of hijab clothing. The Burkha is an item of clothing for covering a woman's head.

Being a good person is all what matters

I still believe that you can not compare an Iranian Shah with Ataturk. Can never accept this.

In Italy they took the cross out of the class rooms. What we are doing is the same thing. Religion should not be symbolised. For example almost everyone in USA has a cross on their necks. Some have a very big golden one, some have a small with diamonds. What the??! Even pornstars have a cross on tehir necks during picture shots.
This only degrades the meaning of cross and also Christianity. Everyone's religion is forhimself and nobody can tell no one how the other person should do.
Religion doesnt need to be symbolized. Its just a belief and its only between me and the God, Allah...... whatever you want to call.
Wearing a head scarf or praying 5 times a day doesnt necessarily mean that you are a good muslim. Being a good person is all what matters. So, you ll get rewarded in this life and the afterlife (if you believe in it)

Just to be the devil's advocate, but that is pretty loaded. Who judges if we are leading a good life? I am sure Osama believes he is, though much of the world would disagree. Hitler believed he was doing something good. Is good a matter of personal opinion, should it be what society decides (a vote perhaps), following a particular religion? Kind of an open-ended statement with lots of room for interpretation. I guess Pol Pot was doing what he thought best for his people and thereby perpetrating the good.
