WARNING SPOILERS ARE ALLOWED HERE!!! DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU HAVE SEEN ALL 3 MOVIES! I had a hard time digesting the meaning of the trilogy. The movies left many loose ends and unanswered questions. The movie it self with state of the art special effect and action is great (even anime like in action style!) but its plot has left me baffled. I have dealt with worse only once before (Neon Genesis Evangelion End Movie left me in epileptic seizure for 3 days!) even so I have been racking my brain trying to understand this trilogy. The best theory I can come up with is that the writers were very stoned when the wrote this and even they don’t know what’s going on when their grounded. Well ok my second most likely explanation for the trilogy is that there was two matrixs: the first matrix where people lived in the early 21st century like we do and then a second matrix for those people that figured out the first is a fake: the second matrix being Zion and the War against the Machines, so in reality no one ever escapes the matrix they just get moved into another one that they think is the real world because its so much more crapy then the first. This explains why Neo had telekinetic powers and could see without his eyes in the “real world”, this also explains how Neo could be “jacked in” without being physically connect. This can also be used to cover up all the loose ends in the story. If you have an understand of what going on please tell me I’m a little wasted over this.
What is this is like the fourth thread on the same exact bloody subject? There is no second Matrix. And Neo does not have telekinetic powers. He has the ability to see through and manipulate the machines. That's about as far as it goes.
WARNING*********SPOILERS*************WARNING Neo is dead but the anamoly that is the "one" isn't. It gets fed back into the Matrix. The Orcale decides to take a gamble which pays of because she believed in Neo. Neo was the opposite of Agent Smith so he sacrifices himself to cancel Agent Smith out but if you notice that the machines slowly take him back again as obvious by the light getting smaller in the scene with the machine and Neo's dead body. She purposely lets Agent Smith take over her. She knew that Agent Smith would see himself standing victorious over Neo and think he'd has won but since she made a choice even she couldn't see past what happens then but it was a gamble which paid off. Agent Smith thought he'd won but Neo eventually defeats him, The oracle was despreatly counting on that. (Recall at the end the architect says that "she played a dangerous game") As far as i am concerned Zion is in the Matrix...because if it has been destroyed 5 times before then it can't be in the real world. When the Oracle says that she suspects we will see Neo again she means the anamoly which is the "One" reborn in another form (rebirth of Christ - if you notice carefully a cross apperas between Neo's chest in the climax of the fight between Neo and agent Smith in the end). All of this is Oracle's doing because she wanted this war to end and was willing to go pretty far to end it just as Neo was. I believe Zion exists solely to give humans a purpose within a matrix...something to strive for, a higher truth while keeping them all in line inside the matrix. What i don't understand is why do they keep destroying it again and again.
Maybe because they can't let the people in Zion get to smart or powerful or else they will figure out that world is fake as well. I don't think anyone dies in the matrix they just get reincarnated (memory wiped), even Neo (maybe not Smith he’s just a program) that’s why Neo will be back some day and that’s how all the other “ones” existed: they are all the same person, the same brain, just different lives! I think in the real world the robot AIs were built pretty well and still work by Asimov's Laws of Robotics as such they made the matrix to keep humans from really hurting each other and to stop all real death (remember the first law is to protect human life at all costs). There was no war and the robots don’t really use the humans for energy (which would break the laws of thermodynamics) the Zion matrix was created for those people that could not handed the 21st century matrix, Zion matrix appeals to those people because they think their free, everyone is happy in the struggle to survive (remember human’s in the first utopia matrix could not handle the niceness of a perfect world, pain and suffering was needed) the robots are happy keeping the humans happy in dream worlds, the robots would not have a reason to exist without the humans. How???
I haven't actually made up my mind on how to interpret the ending but if Zion is in the Matrix that means the peaceful co-existence at the end between the Zion dwellers (Zionist?) and the Machines is really one existing only in the Matrix. In reality, all the humans are still jacked up and under the control of the Machines, which means the Machines actually won. I'll have to wait for the DVD and watch it a couple of times again before I can form any conclusion.

Thank you cool skill that link solves my problem, I believe what I believe and won't look anymore because trying to understand these movies will be the death of me! My little brother asked me "Well if Zion was a matrix why did he see its "code" as that yellow shit?" I respond: "Because the matrix was running in Linux and the Zion matrix was running in Windows!"
I may be getting too cynical, but I thought the thing to understand about the matrix was that it was all done with the intention of getting a large mass audience, and entertaining them.
It failed to entertain me, only harm me mentally. I think it was only made to get people to buy tickets... hum should have pirated it like LotR.
