I got this PM quite rudely out of no where today:

Well, well, well it seems that the Canadian version of the RIAA has finally gotten it's heels up to the challenge. I suggest you read their website... it's really full of hallow threats, because they don't to my knowledge have Canadian approval to get IP's et al.

How do you know it isn't just a spam message ? Odds are you'll
have downloaded copyrighted material so the message applies
to just about everyone connected to the internet...

Well what I did was deleted all the songs I don't want, and took the ones I wanted and put them in a new folder outside the Kaaza folder so one could download them from me. But I fear that eventually Canadians will go down the same path of no privacy like the US soon because of the CRIA.

Yes I have been hearing rumblings that this was coming. Massive amounts of money are being quietly transfered from the music interests to the politicans to buy the votes necessary to make this illegal in the future. When folks wake up one day they will find suddenly it is not longer legal to d/l music in Canada. This is much the way it happened in the US.

Let us all go out on the streets and burn down the music industry.

na ja...we have to put someone in all those prison cells. Imagine they would be filled with rapist and such. That would be a mess. Better to put nice ordinary people in jail.

in a non-capitalistic society, artists would be overjoyed with an invention such as Kazaa.

the way i see it there's no stopping this. the only problem is that this new technology does not fit the economic system of capitalism.
if you don't want MP3s to be "shared" you'd have to stop transfer of all digital information.
unless you'd monitor all file transfers over the internet...and that's not practical at all. more like impossible.

stopping the use of this technology is not gonna happen. in fact, Internet 2 is coming soon. the transfer will be even faster and easier.

as far as big brother, im not concerned. my Kazaa uploads are turned off. i dont even think ppl can browse my folder, let alone download something.
but even if it's possible, i'm betting that the chance of getting caught is very small.

lets say they'll start prosecuting ppl.....eventually they'll have to stop. you can't put everyone in jail, can you?

Na ja, maybe they are just after your money. They will just let you pay a rediculous fine for the rest of your life, because you had 30 songs on your harddrive and they calculated that this costed them 1 million dollars.

FYI - They have different calculators than we have.

Hehe, you're not a big networking buff, are you?

Anyway, you buncha whiners, stealing is illegal, deal with it. Sure you may have a right to your privacy, but not a right to privately steal all you like.

Last time I checked the only way you can bother me in my privacy was with a warrant. Are they going extra-legal now? Two wrongs don't make a right... do they?

The music 'industry' has lost control of the means of distribution and needs to restructure it's business model accordingly.

    Deal with it
