Out of curiosity - are there any fans out there (outside of Canuckland) who are fans of Canadian music? Any Hip fans? Any Rush fans?

Please god - no one say Avril.

    Well...

I live near Buffalo, NY, and more than occaisionally listen to Canadian radio from Toronto & St. Catherines...

    Comments:

To me the Tragically Hip are sort of like the Canadian REM... which, for good or ill, I detest... and so in spite of a passing interest in "Gordo's" semi-nonsensical babbling, I can't help but associate one with the other, and hence must fight gagging whenever I hear them... (heh... sort of kidding, but the man just comes off as trying to sound incomprehensible rather than being incomprehensible as an inherent aspect of his personality...)

Rush... ahhh... memories of such peculiar gems as the blistering assault of "Working Man", the cosmic colossus "Cygnus X-1", and the triumphant refrain of "Bastille Day"... Not to mention the fact that, while apparently mellowing with age, they also became more intricate... fun stuff...

    Lets see...

Well, there's that "grungy" old bastard, Niel Young... sweet Jesus, but the sumbitch has a voice like fingernails on a chalkboard! Some interesting thoughts though... Plus, spit in the eye of convention & did whatever struck his fancy....

The Guess Who... dinosaurs to most of ye, I'm thinking... and in spite of wishing I could go back in time and slap the smug look off Burton's face in a couple of their album photos, I like the way they put a song together.... 'cept maybe "American Woman".... Heard it a few dozen too many times, I guess...

April Wine... more dino stuff, I guess, but I kinda like it...

The Headstones... Hee! How can you not like the lyric
"Went down to the cemetery... lookin' for love...
Got there & my baby was buried... I had to dig 'er up..."

I Mother Earth... almost jazzy at times with the instrumental breaks & such... cool...

David Wilcox... wierd, but an interestingly irreverent change of pace...

Danko(sp?) Jones... he's got one one called "Lover Call" I find quite humorous... unfortunately, nis newest features him screeching his brains out about "wanting" somebody, which usually makes me want to put a large caliber hollow-point slug into his windpipe...LoL

Edwin (& The Pressure).... wasn't this guy with I mother Earth until recently? Interesting... A track either called "Weapon", or referring to the term in the lyrics somewhere I found interesting.

I'll chime in further, perhaps as more come to mind...

    Edit:
    ach! I almost forgot Avril!
hmmm... I'd like to have her chained to a post in my basement to slap around and sodomize when I'm having a bad day, but if there's another use for her... well.... I'm stumped.... heh...

Our Lady Peace, Matt Good and Barenaked Ladies anyone? What about *shudder* Nickelback? Yeah, ok, they aren't nearly as wonderful as the old Canadian bands, but I guess they still do have an international presence. There's also Glass Tiger, Trooper, and Platinum Blonde if we're talking about oldies. I personally love them all...except maybe the Nickelback genre.

Remind me if any in this list is not Canadian

    Celine Dion
    Shania Twain
    Alanis Morisette
    Chantal Kreviazouk
    Avril Lavigne
    The Moffats
    Barenaked Ladies

Those are singers or bands I know from Canada...
Suddenly it makes me wonder: no pop Canadian girl-band?
