I am a science fiction fan that is fiending for more movies. To give you an idea of the type of movies I like, here are some of my favorites: Equilibrium 1984 Invasion of the Body Snatchers Logan's Run They Live Minority Report Handmaid's Tale Fahrenheit 451 Zardoz I'm looking for good suggestions for movies that are similar.. especially any movies set in a society that is oppressive in some ways. Any and all movies that fit in this vein would be great, no matter how bad or campy the movie is (of course, good movies are preferred). Thanks in advance!
Um...how about...Gattaca, Twelve Monkeys, The Terminator, The Matrix, Escape from New York... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Thanks, I have already seen all of those, except for Escape From New York, but I will definitely check it out now! I love all those movies as well. Anyone else? There's got to be more along those lines, no matter how obscure they are.
Zardoz? The one with Sean Connery, and all the naked chicks? Besides the naked chicks, that movie sucked!
Zardoz should have gotten an Oscar for Bestest Picture. Anyone else have any suggestions? Like I said, "no matter how bad or campy the movie is". Even really obscure hard-to-find stuff would be good.
2001: A Space Odyssey, The Man who Fell to Earth, THX-1138, The Day the Earth Stood Still. If you've seen these, I've got others to suggest, too Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
I’m surprised that no one has mentioned Blade Runner. That one should be at the top of your list. Also try: Vanilla Sky, The Cube, Possible Worlds and Soylent Green.
Cube is a very good movie. Yes, there is a sequel; it's already out on video. It's called Cube 2: Hypercube. I recommend: Dark City, Donny Darko, The Matrix, StarTreks 2, 4, 6, 8, StarGate, and The Fifth Element.
Try.... Dark Star, Them, Kronos, Barbarella, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Invaders From Mars (the original version 1965 or so), The Fly ( the original about 1964), Flash Gordon, Flesh Gordon, It, It 2, The Angry Red Planet, The Hellstrom Chronicles, Dr. Strangelove, Soylent Green and Earth vs. Flying Saucers to name a few.
Oh, man. Donnie Darko changed my life. But after you see it (not before, after) be sure to go to the website. It clears a lot up.
It was the Citizen Kane of bad movies. Awesome movie. My male heterosexual friend wants to have sex with Tom Cruise because of this movie. My only problem with it was the crappy building special effects at the end. They just looked cheap and awful. Heheh. Cool movie. Everybody dies! The second one was wierd. Them! is the best movie ever! Croicky! Giant ants....killing people...yes...yes! They should do a remake, it would be so awesome! This movie is awesome too. They land on Mars, and it's like this really lush place, and they find skyscrapers...and that's really all I remember. It's very red there too. Go figure. I would suggest Evil Dead and Army of Darkness.
Certainly THX-1138 http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0066434/ is a film about a repressive society; admittedly it is a strange low-budget arty film but you get an idea of how a society could be repressed and medicated into submission without anyone realising (until someone doesn't take their drugs); and it was Lucas' best film, better than Star Wars... _________________ SF worldbuilding at http://www.orionsarm.com/main.html
