Have you considered a community college course in reading comprehension?
    Allow me to suggest one.

Yes, but knowing that you must keep your face covered means you are oppressed. That's what spymoose was saying, perhaps you should invest in some reading comprehension skills yourself.

Well darn! Who woulda thought that being forced to follow a dress code that enforces your inferiourity as a human would be oppressive? You know, that's just the sort of brilliant thought that we need brilliant young minds like your own to brilliantly point out.

Well you seemed to be glazing over on that point, so I thought I'd help you out. We can't all understand the things we read and be expected to be responsible for flip flopping on certain points and then using unwarranted ad homonym attacks in a desperate attempt to backpedal. That's why I'm here to lend you a hand.

    Ad...homonym? To the homonym?

Seemed. Thus I suggest a reading comprehension class - I did not find it necessary to mention the obvious point, thus I seemed to ignore it.

The decision by the Saudi government may seem retarded and archaic to the west. It does so to me too. However, if that's their law, and if they wish to run the country as per conservative islamic law... then that's their business.

You are right here, but your sentence is an oxymoron, Wahhabism can not be islam (submission to god), because it's Wahhabism, or followers of the Wahabi movement and not followers of god. They needed Mr. Wahabi to tell them what to do and they are not muslims.

*sigh* shall i revive this thread? i... shall.

yes, obviously, i would agree that people of either sex (as well as race, creed, etc.) should have the right to to wear whatever they want, but i would argue that the root of virulent racism that leads to war and atrocities is a higher priority. if your feminism is so vital a part of your personality that you would disagree, then... fine.

at any rate, too much of the muslim theocratic establishment boils things down to being Jewish or Not Jewish (read: evil or good), just as too much of the israeli and jewish establishment (and community) seems to believe that all arabs and muslims think this way. this is not helpful. the above news item illustrates one side of the problem in striking relief.

I don't like barbies much and if I was head of some country's department of toys or something, I would try to get rid of them.

These barbies with their stick like skin on bones bodies, tall legs and little torsos, silk long hair, full makeup, little waists, and big boobs are just an insult to all women and not fit for little girls play who are very impressionable....They are obviously sex objects made up by some grown man to reflect what he wants to see in a woman.

I would also abolish Cinderella and snow white. All step moms should sue Disney for film making Cinderella. My daughter the other day met this little girl and when we asked her about her mom she said that she doesn't have a mom, but she have a step mom. My daughter immediately said, like Cinderella and snowwhite, and asked her if her step mom was mean. I felt so horrible and I knew that my daughter made an innocent comment, but that was an example of how we expose our children to inappropriate things that end up shaping their believes.

Look at some of the things that we teach our kids.
    1- Step moms are bad.
2- Girls that are good are opressed princess. All non princess girls must be worthless.
3- Pretty girls are good, Anastasia and Drizzela are ugly and must be bad.
4- Not having ball gowns and couches is opression. All a girl can ask from life is some good looks and good cloth.
5- Men have to be very good looking and prince quality to be fit. 6- Men are all prince charming riding white horses and the rest of them are worthless.
7- Prince charming sweeps princess off their feet....
8- Small feet are pretty like Cinderellas, large feet are ugly.
9- If you are a woman, then all other women hate you, and males are your friend, just ask the mirror on the wall.

Well, that's the first time I've ever been called feminist.

Anyway, I'd argue that they have the same root. I think the statement of the theocracy is playing on Jewish racism to aviod the real reasons why they want to ban barbie. All of it boils down to the same root plan of the government, which is to stay in power.

    Flores:

If your child's only experience of stepmotherhood is Cinderella, then what other conclusion would she draw? It's not like any of the stories were new concepts at the time Disney made them. Did you take any steps to show your daughter good examples of step-mothers? Or are you just bothered that she drew a conclusion from a movie? Ideally as she grows up she'll be able to make distinctions between stories and reality.

Furthermore, I think that you put too much into the prince charming as an oppressive male figure in the stories. Most psychologists agree that the stories are classically oedipal.
