Has anyone else read this series by Robert Jordan? I am in the middle of the third book, and I must say that it is better than Tolkien's books in many regards. I would highly reccomend it to any fans of epic fantasy that want a good series to get really involved in.

yes, he's quite good. They even have several forums all about Jordans Wheel of time, discussing the plots, characters, etc. Haven't finished the series though. And that man can WRITE!

Tolkien influenced many writers and thus, the world of AD&D progressed, among other stories. I'm sure Jordan influences new writers now.

Do you know where any of these forums can be found? I wouldnt mind delving a little further into Jordan's world, I love the plot behind the world that he has revealed in the Wheel of Time.

The last few books have really been a boring buildup for 700 pages and 20 pages of excitement at the end. By stretching the story like this Jordan is just milking the cash cow for every last drop, he should have finished it two books ago.

Jordan, as much as I love his writing, did just flat out steal a whole lot from Tolkien.

For instance Paddan Fain (SP? It's been like two years since I read any of the books sorry if I butcher the spellings) is basically just the same concept as gohlam, his Myrddrral are quite akin to the ring wraiths, and for the love of God Lan is Aragorn, there is simply no denying that.

i want to wring robert jordans neck, oh man. the biggest plot development of the series happens in "winters heart" and the next book after that there is hardly even mention of it! the man is milking and streching this cash cow and its going dry. it was sooo much fun in the begining but now its really time to stick a fork in it... that is it was time a few books ago.

You know it's going to be a real let down if the last book comes out, that whole tarmon'gaidon or whatever happens, and Rand ends up dieing just as predicted, no surprises or anything, just as we've been hearing it would go down for book after book. I hope RJ has something up his sleeve.

As an avid reader of fantasy, yes I have read these books and give them 99/100 for readability. Like a lot of stories of epic proportions, they can get bogged down in places, but well worth persevering in those few places.

Have you tried the pc game by the same name? Quite good really and "sort of" sticks to a storyline.

Yeah I've got the PC game, actually. I bought it when it first came out, back when it was like a big deal, legend entertainment's next game after Unreal, in a slightly updated Unreal engine. . . and it turned out my PC couldn't run it, haha! It wasn't until like years later when I finally upgraded everything that I could run it. To be honest it wasn't really that good. It's really just a straight up 3D shooter, no punches pulled, you just happen to have Ter'angreal instead of guns (or a bow, or a sword or whatever). It would have been so much better as an RPG!

Also it deviates from the books in a few key ways. . . for one most of the trollocs didn't look particularly trollocish, but instead more like orcs (some of them had no specific animal heads, and just looked traditionally like some sort of orc or a goblin or something), Ter'angreal are a dime a dozen, there's only like a dozen different ones, as opposed to them all being unique. . . they decided to completely dodge the whole channeling thing, and didn't so much as alow your Aes Sedai character to see others weaving flows of spirit fire earth and all that, nor did they give any glow around other channelers. Also, they managed to completely screw up Baelfire, how can you do that? RJ was so very descriptive of it! They made it just this straight beam that looks essentially like a very fat purple light saber (purple on the outside white on the inside) which is there, and then poof gone when it's done firing. . . should have been a reddish orange bar that fades away and leaves a sort of white afterimage burned on the players eye. . . the unreal engine CAN do that. Also the Ter'Angreal that produces Bael fire was this wicked golden spirally thorny thing, which was a complete disreguard for the fans of the book. It should have just been that unassuming black rod, that would have made a few WoT fans grin and giggle like the geeks we are once we found it. Just flat out shoddy in that reguard!

Also you end up killing Ishamael, which I can't reconcile, being that Rand is supposed to do that (however many years in the future it would be that no one would remember the whole Tar Valon being invaded thing, which happens in the game).

Other than that, though the level design was pretty cool, some really nice visuals, a lot of good effort, they were certainly dead on with the ways and machin'shin or however you spell it.

Also the cut-scenes are kind of funky, the models for the characters are really rough, and it looks as if their hands have all been smashed by hammers, or something.

Agreed. I like shoot em ups, so was a wee bit biased. I agree about the game but, if you try to forget the book, the game does have a certain appeal. Nowhere near as good as the books but if you were to buy a pc game of the book, it would fill a 60gb HDD!!
Just enjoy the game for what it is, a shoot 'em up.

I said it sticks to a storyline, I didn't say which one

When you guys are talking about it getting slow and drawn out...what books are you talking about? I just started book four, and it seems to have the same pace that all of the others have had. I assume you are reffering to the later part of the series.

It starts to get tedious from book seven and up.

It's funny. You guys are talking about that book, "The Wheel Of Time" and an add comes up, on the top of the page, from amazon.com saying that they have that book. Maybe google is spying on sciforums to find out what kind of topics/products were interested in?

The Wheel of Time can be tedious in places, you need to be a real fan of the story to keep going along. Its one hell of an epic.

Has that series even ended yet?

I gave up after Lord of Chaos, when I realized that I hadn't enjoyed anything since book 1. Book 1 was great! Book 2 was not great. Then, book 3 was not great and so on. Eventually I sensed that the great part of the series was over, and stopped reading.

I thought the first book was very good. Second not as good and they have been less interesting with each segment it is time to end the wheel of time.
