I think it would be alot smarter to give kids condoms and to teach themselves how to defend themselves then to promote abstinence.

    Your thoughts please.

I actually think painful castrations would work better to dull the spread of STDs and pregnancies, but who am I to blow against the wind...

Castrations? Worked for the Chinese for a long time. It used to be a prerequisite to be one of the emperor's advisors. They even had some eunich emperors. A lot more level headed than the rest of them.

    indeed

my high school health teacher handed out oodles of handouts on stds and contraception. one of the kids in the class got a bug up his ass cause he thought she shouldn't be teaching this in a catholic school; he complained to administration. she was allowed to but since he complained they made a deal that she couldn't provide us with information. she could hand the stuff out but had to collect it at the end of class (with a disclaimer that she would look the other way if any disappeared). what they should have done was told the kid to shut up or find a more oppressive protestant school and kept fish bowls of condoms on every desk.
when i got to college, they threw condoms at us like confetti (literally. no really, i mean literally) and there are baskets of them sitting around everywhere, provided by health services.

    stupid conservatives.

Yeah, there are condom dispensers at our high school in almost every bathroom. They used to be free but some stupid asswipes stole a few hundred of them so now they cost fifty cents apiece. Still, it's remarkeably easy to enjoy yourself and be safe at the same time. If you're an advocate of abstinence (and only abstinence) then you're a hypocrit and that's all there is to it.

You can't be serious??? If that was the case at any high school in Florida, all of the irrational parents living here would start a full blown riot, if not a mini civil war in the state.

Honestly it's the best way to combant pregnancy and the spread of STDs. I think, but I'm not sure, that our school was the first to implement the system because a few years ago some goody two shoes' got together and talked to the school board about putting the system in effect. I believe we were mentioned in Time at one point.

I didn't say it wasn't a good idea Pollux, I was just in shock, because I know alot of people down here would get red faced and start drooling before attacking neighbors who didn't hold their point of view.

I heard in France a few years ago, the government gave permission to the school's nurses to give girls the morning after pill to prevent pregnancy - and there was alot of "heated debate" about the "law" before it got passed. And that appoximately 10 thousand girls were getting pregnant in France's schools each year.

That might be true, however I can assure you that if people started trying to forceably castrate men in america, the graveyards of this country would be overflowing within a week, not to mention the inability to drive because the roads would be covered with bodies.

i suppose those irrational parents would prefer to bury their children who died of an std or at least pay medical bills while they live with one or three for their entire lives. or perhaps they'd like to support both their children and grandchildren. or they may like driving their daughters to a clinic to undergo a dangerous surgery that may prevent them from becoming grandparents ever. geez, i'm lucky- at least my mom only ever told me "don't have unprotected sex".

    It's a fine line

Sex education is very crucial for our children and really the earlier in their lives the better, but one of the biggest things that need to be emphasized to the children is that they shouldn't confuse sex education with having license to have sex. We all get educated in Physics and motions, yet our course work doesn't qualify us to go out an fly a plane or launch a rocket. In case of an emergency though, an educated person forced to fly a plane is more likely to act properly than an uneducated person.

Sometimes I feel that those that promote sexual education for children are hiding behind the agenda that children should be free to have sex, while those that are against teaching the children about sex, are foolishly trying to protect their children by thinking that they have their children in a bubble and at the same time endangering the child if the child is ignorant yet is always faced with choices regarding sex.....

Well, that the attitude of the parents on the issue, how about the children? Rarely the child will have the right state of mind when recieving sex education, for I remember I giggeled with my friends the whole time during these classes. I didn't take them seriously, and they were almost viewed as the closest thing I'll ever come to porn. I didn't pay attention to the boring STD, condoms talk and patiently awaited the anatomy talk. That's why education on the intent of these classes must be emphasized to everyone to overcome this understanding barriers.

yes the parents need to reevaluate their attitude.

kids, even very young kids, these days already know the anatomy and how to inside and out from elsewhere. it is not necessary to even bother teaching that part. current sex ed classes do focus on safety and the other things that kids need to know. it seems like ages ago, but even when i was in school sex ed class we talked about contraception, responsibility, relationships, love & commitment. to think school age kids need to be taught the how to is like sitting them down and saying "these are your fingers. you have 10 of them". getting kids to talk openly and candidly about issues surrounding sex ensures that they'll be more responsible and prepared when the opportunity comes up.

  19. Ack . . . I was having an erotic fantasy just then . . . and you had to write "castrations," didn't you?!?

People shouldn't procreate. Especially those not ready to deal with consequences. I tell you the #1 problem with the world is overpopulation.

There are entirely too many fucking people on the planet, and before you tell me "Well do us all a favor and rid yourself", go get fucked and die. YOURE THE PROBLEM NOT ME!

Personally, I do not think there is anything wrong with sex at all as long as you are well educated on it and know how to protect yourself. These days you would think it was common knowledge to wrap it but some people are just plain stupid. However, I do wonder what ever happened to the age old practice of wait until you are married.
