I think Star Trek The Next Generation is got to be the best because they have got a huge selection of fascinating host of characters like Data, Captain Picard and Worf. They have been on a huge variety of missions like encountering the borg and when Picard turns into one of them. I thought he wasn't going to be human again!!!!!!!!

The next generation. The beginning theme is amazing though Deep Space Nine has the best theme overall.

Next generation definitely. Though I still like the original one with Kirk and Spock.

    TNG rules

I agree: TNG. It had (for us) the most thought-provoking stories. Picard living an entire lifetime on the dying planet and ending up with his flute as a souvenir to prove that it was "real." Ardra satisfying the legal definition of God so she could lay claim to the whole planet -- and everything in orbit above it. The scientist who wanted to disassemble Data so he could make more and the judge who had to decide whether Data was a person or Star Fleet property. In fact, almost all of the Data episodes.

All the series were better than almost anything else on TV except their direct competitors like Bab 5, Farscape, and StarGate. And "Dinosaurs!". But TNG still rules.

My wife and I really enjoyed the year all the younger, hairier guys went nuts because Patrick Stewart won TV Guide's "Sexiest Man on TV" poll.

TNG had this amazing episode, a two part series, where Q puts all of mankind to the last judgement and Picard had to prove why mankind should be saved. Still to this day the complexity and the subtle humanity of those two episodes amazes me and puts me at awe at how amazing that show was at times....even better than it's general marvelous consistent nature.

i have a feeling im gonna get beaten for this but i gotta go with Enterprise.

its true archer aint no picard but IMO the series has more options (as far as story goes) to be unique compared to the others (which i loved) but they were very, very similar over all. They never really had anything technology couldn't solve, also everything cool had already been invented and humanity is a mighty force (almost indestructible) in the other series', what fun is that?

Its more fun, to me to anyway, to watch the humans stumble, screw up and kind of make the rules up as they go. Humanity is just too together and powerful in the others (st:tos,st:ng,st:voy,st:ds9) to stay interesting.

don't get me wrong, im a HUGE trek fan, i just like Enterprise the best overall.

ok, i know im gonna get hacked so lets hear it.

Well I guess this is a civilized crowd. Nobody took you to task for that one. I like Enterprise too. There's room for a lot of stories in that long hiatus between our present and Captain Kirk's adventures.

Well I am going to have to even up the odds here and go with enterprise as well. Mostly for the same reasons mentioned before, but also I really like the opening intro too.

    Hmmm...this is a tough question.

The Original Series was okay, I only consider it a stepping stone to what Star Trek is today, nothing more, nothing less. You have to admit it's severly over rated. One thing I can that's good is the music especially the one that plays when Spock and Kirk battle to the death (which coincidently is the same as the national anthem where Zoidberg comes from

). Another thing I don't like is that the ship is way to bright, all of these lights that do nothing and it's just...bright.

The Next Generation, this is the show that got me into Star Trek. I was only 5 or 6 when this was launched. Looked stunning in it's time but now looks dated. But that's not important. They did hire some terrible actors, god some of them annoyed me. Also they 'copied' some episodes from TOS. But I like it, something about it makes me like it.

Deep Space 9 has got to be my second favourite. The wide range of characters, stories and a darker look to the ships were great. But I don't want to kid anyone, the Dominion War blew me away and that's why I like it so much. Sure the episodes showing the day to day lives of everyone was a good idea, and also the return of Miles O'Brian and Worf was well recieved but the action was so cool.

Now to my favourite, Voyager *wipes away egg from face* Voyager looks better, it has a very dark feel to it. The new races they encounter are great, the story is intriging and although Janeway annoys the hell out of me I just can't stop watching it. You just have to admit it's very engrossing although at times it seems farfetched.

And Enterprise is okay too, only seen a few episodes as it's not on much but it's okay.

Enterprise. Probably because it's the latest series (or maybe because Jolene Blalock is my kind of Vulcan). After that, in order of appearance going back. Nostalgia increases with age.

And Scott Bakula looks as if he jumped right from a Quantum Leap episode. I keep expecting him to leap somewhere else...

one thing about the intro that drives me crazy is the music. I understand they wanted it to contrast the other series but they didn't continue the change through the actual show. After the intro the music returns to a fairly standard trek style.

If they had carried the musical change through out the episodes i wouldn't have minded the change but since they don't, the intro music feels kind of tacked on and out of place.

i guess im saying i wish the music within each episode was as different as the intro.

TNG. I only caught the reruns, but I watched them as often as I could. Every afternoon at four PM on ABC. Then they replaced the show with fucking Rosie Odonell. I was pretty young at the time but rest assured I went apeshit. Totally apeshit. One of my friends, who was into Rosie Odonell, put a sticker with her name on it on my Enterprise-D model. Oohhhh mann...

I think I have to watch more of TNG, I just don't remember that much of it. I catch it every now and then, but some of the episodes I've seen just aren't that great. There's the one with Kahless, the one with the Crystalline Entity (which was alright but totally predictable. I knew the old chick would torpedo the entity, and I knew it was alive, like a big whale).

DS9 was okay but sometimes it just bored the hell out of me. TOS is just awesome, that's all there is to it. I never get tired of the fifteen second battle music(duhduhduhDAHduhduhDAHduhduhDAH). I liked Voyager, never had a major problem with it. Enterprise I hated, even though admittedly I only saw one episode. I don't get UPN on my satellite tv

  18. Liked or loved all, because:

TOS: because it dared to dream, I liked the ideas, problems, solutions, philosophy, characters, species

Problems: didn’t like any scenes where Spock displayed a lack of logic, or his
acting like humans are exotic, strange, or illogical; he lived with humans & had a
human mother, so why hadn’t he learned their idiosyncratic behaviors by now, hmm?
Kirk as ‘Don Juan’ across the galaxy, ever hear of AIDS? SARS? What diseases
or parasites will we acquire in the future?

    TNG: it’s ok

Problems: hate ‘Q’, why would any entity that has that much power, act so
childish? Shouldn’t a civilization so advanced, control or socialize its so-called
    children better?

DS9: its ok, “Little Green Men” is the best sci-fi episode ever!!!

Problems: in a setting where you could delve deep into character development,
philosophy, beliefs; why have such weak ideas, plots or the Dominion War?
Never explained Klingon bumps in the remake of the Tribble episode, why not?

Voyager: great ideas, scenes, a race across the galaxy, the idea of a generation ship
    (for a 75 year voyage?)

Problems: why lose Kes for 7 of 9? They both were good. Kes as a hateful entity?
Lost it on the finale, Time Police would have sent them back

Enterprise: love intro scenes, our first dreams, our efforts, explanations of how we got
    advanced technology

Problems: intro music (is that Rod Steward?), anti-Vulcanism bias, Temporal
Cold War (where are the Time Police?), never before heard of species, the
    Vulcans as devious & sneaky?

There's no question that much of TOS is flawed -- perhaps even a little silly. But check it out again. The dialogue and characterizations in the first two seasons, especially of the relationship between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy, soundly beat anything that came after them in the series. In fact, TOS contains some of the most interesting and surprisingly complex characterizations in television; watch it again with an open mind. . .The show broke a lot of ground, too, socially and sci-fi-wise. The later Trek series had this rich world construction to bounce off of -- TOS had to create from scratch.

    I would rank it second.

Picard is a classic character, honorable and wise -- a great image of a leader and father. Data generated some terrific story lines. Q was a great semi-villain, and the Borg caused fear in all. The female characters are routinely weak and poorly written, except perhaps for Guinan. And Worf, a character with tremendous potential, came into his own only on Ds9.

    I rank TNG fourth.

Not much more I can say here except that DS9 is purely brilliant. Sisko combines the best of Kirk and Picard while being his own man. The female characters are strong and well-written. Quark makes for great comic relief as well as some good plots. The Cardassians are great villains. The deep politics and religion of Bajor resonate with us and remind us of a real world (as opposed to TNG's saccharine future).

    DS9 is definitely my favorite.

I like VOY. I like it more than I used to like it. The characters have grown on me, and I confess to being one of maybe 3 fans of Neelix. But it's not a strong series. So many stories are recycled, almost week to week. And the trek-no-babble got to be too strong.

I rank VOY fifth, but perhaps only because -- like many of us here -- I grew up watching TNG and have a special love for it (despite the fact that the reruns now often bore me).

Archer seethes with potential. I confess to not watching a lot of season 2, but I really enjoyed the first season. The characters have real humanity, as if we were watching a group of ourselves in space -- fighting and confused and screwing up. But somehow it works. ENT also has a sense of humor sometimes lacking in the other shows. I hope it stays around to become as rich and deep as the others became.

    I rank ENT third.

    So, to recap:

    Fave: DS9
    2. TOS
    3. ENT
    4. TNG
    5. VOY

    Randolfo started the,
template so ill add my thoughts to the trend (what hardcore trekker/trekkie could resist?).

    TNG:
because of timing (i suspect), TNG had the initial impact that brought me into this universe so i have to give it props. I mean, Picard was the shit, lets face it. i doubt they will be able to recapture that kind of presence in the captain seat anytime soon (as much as i enjoy the others).

    VOY:
For me Voyager was the most fun to watch for the same reason i like enterprise. They were alone and had to fly by the seat of their pants for most of the series with no hope of backup. Ive heard a lot of grumbling about Janeway but i found her to be a convincing leader, its rare (in my experience) that a woman is given a good leadership role that is then well portrayed and i believe the actor playing Janeway achieved that. If she were a real captain i would have followed her orders, no questions asked, and thats really the definition of a leader to me (essentially i "bought" her as the boss).

    DS9:
Though the damage religions tend to cause terrifies me, it cant be argued that its a huge factor in present day and for that reason i enjoyed DS9. I thought it was daring of DS9 to address it (traditionally star-trek avoids it like the plague). Also, the quark episodes are so much fun even if the series was total crap id still have liked it.

    TOS:
The original series is the focus, like the atlas of this universe. I love it more for the fact that it created this franchise than its groundbreaking views for its time. unfortunately, since im of a later generation, its timely impact is somewhat lost on me (as im sure TNG will seem silly to the next age of viewers). Thats not to say i dont enjoy it but the ground breaking it did is before my time and therefore seems obvious (of course it wasn't, but their lessons are old news to my generation).

    ENT:
This incarnation is my favourite simply because it feels more connected to humanity today and therefore i have a connection to their problems that the other series' had already solved. As i stated in an earlier post, they are just fumbling through, making mistakes, crossing their fingers and hoping - i can relate to that.

its hard for me to rank them but here i go,

    1- ENT
    2- VOY
    3- TNG
    4- DS9
    5- TOS

they come so close in some areas, my ranking really means very little but there it is.

  22. Actually, it sort of was a soap opera that evolved into a war story (first Worf, then the Dominion).

They missed on many levels; they came close on relationships (friends, families & love interests), roles of religion & politics in societies (Bajor & Cardassia), and the species involved (Human, Bajoran, Cardassian, and Changeling & Ferengi).

They should have unfolded the human & alien psyches more, they also needed some better actors. Also "what is a "dabo girl"? an escort or a bar girl (we had those by military bases, girls that worked for the bar, that got you to buy beer for them, usually more expensive). The series should have been completely character driven; does that make it a chick flick?

    TNG

After recently purchasing all of the TNG boxed DVD sets, I'd have to admit that TNG is my favorite series, followed by Enterprise, TOS, DS9 and finally Voyager (which I rarely watched).
