If you could have one series from your childhood transformed into a movie on the "Big Screen" what would it be? Mine would be my first Manga experience, "Battle of the Planets"!
Characters I remember most of the names, Keeop, 7zark7 and 1rover1, but one still eludes me. What was the girl in the swan costume called? *grin*
Ah, we digress! That's because we've kind of changed the thread Wet! If you read the messages from the top you'll understand! Mal and I have now degenerated into a fond reminisce of a top TV manga series from our childhood! But that's the way it goes sometimes!
Re: Characters Princess. Tiny. Keyop. Mark. Jason - and watching over them from Centre Neptune their computerised co-ordinator 7-Zark-7! Watching, warning against surprise attacks by alien galaxies beyond space! Fearless young orphans, protecting Earth's entire galaxy Always five, acting as one. Dedicated, inseparable, invincible! I recently bought the Japanese DVD (Ninja Science Team Gatchaman). No subtitles, but it doesn't matter. It's still easy to follow, and with the added bonus of no 7-Zark-7 or 1-Rover-1.
Wow! Yeah! That's right! Tiny was the big guy! I heard rumours that they had lost the original English soundtrack. I saw the redubbed English version repackaged and called G-Force. It was pants! I'm relieved to say I have since seen some of the original BOTP on satelite. I'd buy it on video if they did a dubbed or subtitled version. I started off my Manga collection with Urotosukidoji. Wow, that was one big eye opener! I had no idea what I had let myself in for! I recommend Legend of the Four Kings as well. (This is turning into a Manga thread - I'm so sorry!)
Re: Wow! Nothing wrong wiht manga. Unless, of course, you're recommending Urotsukidoji; unmitigated shite doesn't even begin to cover it. If you're interested in good stuff from Manga, I recommend Battle Angel Alita, Appleseed, Patlabor, Ghost int he Shell or Wings of Honneamise. From other anime publishers, I'd suggest Bubblegum Crisis, Gunbusters or Urusei Yatsura (my favourite).
Fair enough I have Ghost in the Shell, yes it's good. I am not interested in amassing a huge Manga collection, so although stuff like Gyver is good, I would not be rushing out to buy it. I can't afford to buy collections that large. Ghost was good because it's one tape! Legend is also good bacause it's on six! (rather small for a Manga series!)
Re: Fair enough I wouldn't go as far as to call Guyver "good"; one average story repeated twelve times, perhaps. Most of the best anime are available on single disks (or tapes); if you want a short series, Ushio and Tora is a mere six episodes, and is great fun. Bubblegum Crisis is eight episodes (don't watch Bubblegum Crash). As for collecting; surely you've got a video rental place that can accommodate?
I have to say though I'm upset with TNT !!! DAMN THAT STATION! I saw an episode of Battle of the Planets not too long ago on TnT (a Turner network...blah!) and the title (which I forget, thank god) was changed and all the names and original dunning was changed to some horrific mess! TINY was now named HOOTIE (ARGH!) and though I forget everyone else's names I know they wer god-awful. I really don't understand why the changes but they sucked.....
That God awful remake! It was redubbed and repackaged as "G-Force". The story I heard was they lost the original audio tracks. I was gutted! I have since seen some of the originals on Cable, so some of them must have survived. I've also been told the original Japanese is much darker. I'm keen to find a copy now!
