I'm trying to learn some new songs on my acoustic guitar. I'm a beginner. I'm not looking for fingerpicking stuff, just open chords, preferably not power chords or bar chords. Nothing too tough, just songs that are easy to learn with a little practice. Songs that would generally be regarded as cool "campfire" songs, just fun songs. Any suggestions?

learn the foo fighters, "talk about it, carry on, people old and new and its you I came into" Those are the lyrics I forget the name of the song, easiest song to play.

    other easy songs:
jewel- who will save your soul-am-c-g-d

    blues traveler- runaround-g-c-am-d

nirvana-about a girl- e to g repeatedly for most of song, chorus a mixture of am, c and some other chord I can't seem to figure out right now.

tom petty- mary janes last song am-g-d-am (you have to lift you front finger up on the am chord and put it back down to make that cool wavy sound and do the same thing with the middle finger on the bottom chord when playing the d).

these are the easiest songs to play. If you can't play these, give up!

cool, thanks for the suggestions fredx. i will say i much prefer nirvana and the foos to absolute shit like jewel. haha... i already know about a girl, by the way.

anyways, could you offer anything else in the vein of nirvana and foo fighters? modern rock, alternative, acoustic shit, stuff like that.

um, fredx, check out my post on the mars volta... you'd like those guys.

pearl jam has alot of easy songs to play. I would avoid tool, too much atmospherics and complexity for the beginner, know some Metallica to impress the ladies (for some reason they like dudes that can play a little metal), Green Day, there are a million songs, just search the internet for your favorite songs. Odds are if you like it you will want to play it more than if you don't like it. That foo fighters song is the one I recommend, its nice to sing and play. Again the lyrics are like "talk about it....and its you I fell into"
    The songs called "Big Me".
