has Elon learnt anything from his "pedo guy" comment

Elon was building a torpedo to rescue children

so its kinda a double play on meaning

but im sure he meant it as a derogatory manner

was the guy a douche ?
yeah i think so because criticizing anyone building rescue equipment is a bit shitty

I never read up on the court case at the time.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-50695593

but he is certainly a pos and now making policy for Twitter.

    Certainly derogatory.
Liverpool's player Suarez had the defence that "negrito" was a familiar address in Uruguay where he was from but he still got a 10 match suspension for needling an opponent using the term.

Did Elon have the same defence that "pedo" is a common description in S Africa?

Since that case I wondered why he had called the guy a pedo (no smoke etc) and thought maybe he knew something about him.

More like he was just bigging himself up at the expense of someone he thought he could abuse for the hell of it.

the guy hurt elons pride by insulting him saying he was only doing it for glory and the idea was stupid
so elon wanted to hurt him back as much as possible

It was a cave rescue. There was no way what Musk was proposing would work. Everyone on the ground knew that. Instead of donating to the rescue effort, he tried to pull the attention onto himself as to how he's the hero building a torpedo.. His proposition was ridiculous and he was told so.

    Musk is only about Musk..

What Unsworth now reveals, through deposition transcripts and emails that his lawyers obtained, is that Musk and his affiliates paid private investigators, including one who turned out to be a convicted felon, to try and dig up dirt on the cave rescuer. Additionally, Musk directed his team to pressure foreign officials in Thailand to say nice things about him and his mini-sub, even as they were grappling with what would prove to be a deadly rescue mission.

Yep, it was a reciprocal insult. Most insults and emotional outbursts don’t meet the criteria for defamation.

But what I'm really concerned about is the government involvement with the supposed "hack-and-leak operations" regarding the Hunter Biden incident. The one that was likely to occur in October shortly before the presidential elections.

Sounds? ... It seems like Trump and others, having money allows them to ignore their responsibilities and they can say what they like when they like to with out fear of consequences.

"sounds a bit over the top"
was referring to elon spying on that guy
sounds like Elon was losing his shit

    i dont like trump
i think he is the worst president usa has ever had and i think he is corrupt
& i think he needs to go to jail for the capital (riot)coup he tried to perform & for how he tried to stop the vote counting.
10 years jail at his age would seem like a good compromise

I don't think so. It’s in a sworn declaration by Yoel Roth, who at the time was Head of Site Integrity at Twitter.

"I was told in these meetings that the intelligence community expected that individuals associated with political campaigns would be subject to hacking attacks and that material obtained through those hacking attacks would likely be disseminated over social media platforms, including Twitter. These expectations of hack-and-leak operations were discussed throughout 2020. I also learned in these meetings that there were rumors that a hack-and-leak operation would involve Hunter Biden."—Yoel Roth

Certainly is a problem when people have enough money to game the legal system .

Still ,Musk was actually found innocent in the trial and by a jury

So that is in the past ,but he doesn't appear to have learned very much ,or acquired much decency in how he carries out his role in public.

A subordinate who acted as he did in the incident in Thailand would have lost his job ,I would expect.

Yep. And he's doing it again.

"Things took a dark turn over the weekend when Musk appeared to endorse a tweet that baselessly accused Roth [former head of trust and safety at Twitter] of being sympathetic to pedophilia — a common trope used by conspiracy theorists to attack people online."

    https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/12/tech/twitter-files-yoel-roth/index.html

Many conservatives accuse anyone they don't like of pedophilia, despite the republican party having a serious issue with child abuse. Looks like he is adopting their "everyone I don't like is a pedophile" approach.

I'm sure you are correct in this case but I don't think you (or anyone else) needs to add "it's a common trope of Republicans to say this". What if he was a pedophile and every liberals response was "that's just a common trope of Republicans"?

Being a pedophile is an extreme case but this kind of response is commonly used here at sciforums against more mundate issues. If I said "our national debt is too high" someone (Tiassa) would response, "that's right out of the conservative talking points, no one worried about debt when Trump was in charge". Yet the point is still valid (debt being too high) and that issue is just ignored by that kind of automatic response.

My point, in your case, is that your argument stands alone or is just as valid without adding the "Republican trope" comment, IMO.

It has become fairly common, and is relevant given how Musk has become a hero for the right. It is also a central theme of Qanon, a far right extremist organization endorsed by some republicans including Trump.

American Right TV: "Ketanji Brown Jackson Enables PEDOPHILES"
DeSantis administration: a democrat who opposed the Parental Rights in Education bill was "probably a groomer"
Republican Lana Theis: democrat Mallory McMorrow wants to "groom" and "sexualize" kindergartners
The Republican Congressional Committee claimed democrat Tom Malinowski was "protecting pedophiles"
Marjorie Taylor Greene said that democrats are "the party of killing babies, grooming and transitioning children, and pro-pedophile politics"

Meanwhile, the only congressperson under investigation for pedophilia is a republican.

    https://abcnews.go.com/US/republica...tack-democrats-lgbtq-people/story?id=84344687

It has replaced "he's a socialist" as the go-to attack for republicans.
    OK.

    Agrees!
Because child exploitation and human trafficking are two major and highly sensitive issues for the region even casual language regarding same can have serious long term consequences.

I am sure Elon knew this and used the "accuse and recant" method of discrediting a critic. (which is same in style to how Trump often behaves) Just that some times no amount of asking for forgiveness (recanting) is going to succeed.

Both Elon and Trump are big about so called freedom of speech but never big on the responsibility that comes with it and most of the issue is about how "regulation" is typically used to make up for a lack of responsibility.
Having money doesn't give them the right to act irresponsibly yet they seem to think that they do have that right. The destruction of Twitter as a rational platform is one such outcome and IMO was to be expected and inevitable once Twitter permanently suspended Trump 8/01/2021.
