Interesting weather this season see the massive low sitting over me https://earth.nullschool.net/#curre...ographic=-94.58,39.66,3037/loc=-91.531,41.597 darned interesting meanwhile a stubborn high at 81.34° N, 165.85° E has stopped the polar vortex from forming for well over a month now interesting
Ah, well those strong Easterlies over L. Ontario certainly explain why I can hear the surf from my house.
I have an interlake racing sailboat(18 ft) and the man who built it(since retired) sails(sailed?) Ontario.
A friend has a similar boat--a McGregor(same hp motor) . Aside from his annual trip to lake superior, he occasionally sails to the Bahamas. I had a32 ft. out islander when in florida-----a boat is a hole in the water into which you dump vast sums of money. He works on it in my driveway and parks it in my woods during the winter.(in exchange for parking, he lets me take it out whenever I want) He has an annual adventure and an occasional disaster. Last year, on his way back from lake superior, the trailer had a wheel bearing failure and had to be towed to an axle place. It was in the yard of the axle place when the derecho hit and took out 40 of my trees. Where his boat would have been parked in my driveway, the derecho dropped a 50 foot tall pine tree that would have, most likely, smashed and destroyed his boat----------------------never underestimate the power of dumb luck to see you through when planning and intellect fail.
Brave man. Some day I'll take it down the Intercoastal Waterway and around Florida - in my dreams. B.O.A.T. = Break Out Another Thousand I have never heard the term "derecho", but it sounds a lot like the devastating squall we experienced while sailing out of Little Current (Manitoulin I.) in July 2005 .
