One year ago today, Australia's second greatest, although by far the most popular PM passed away...Robert James Lee Hawke......
One moment I won't ever forget was when Australia won for the first time ever, the America's cup trophy, that in its 135 year history, had never left the New York Yacht club. Hawkie loved his sport, and this brought out the best of his knock about attitude, and general irreverence for most things....

The legal firm I worked for represented him in a libel suit and I got to sit next to him, but one, during the hearing, but I never got to talk to him.

I remember where I was while driving (to work) and listening to the radio when we won the America's Cup.

Hawkie, a genuine left wing Labour leader, gave us medicare and a strong footing for the current global situation (while other right wing Labour leaders made us trade pay rises for superannuation and massive losses in the same global situation).

Vale Bob Hawke, your heart was always in the right place.
