Revelation 6:8, NIV: "I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth."

More plagues will come, those repent will be saved.

    So?
Ecclesiastes 1:9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

Saint, saint, saint. Jesus is sad when you try to be a false prophet.

Ezekial 13:9 - My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of my people or be listed in the records of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign LORD.

Jeremiah 23:16 - This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you . . . they speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD."

Timothy 4:3 -For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

I had a white nag named Nantucket
Whose job was to carry a bucket.
When I refused him sick leave,
I got a kick in greaves,
That hoarse pale pail horse said, ah, fukkit!

I guess repenting can't hurt - but you'll probably be better off if you wash your hands.

How many gods are there? Do we have competing religions dependent on the number of gods they can muster in the grand battle for control of the universe, and the Earth in particular?

All gods are one god and one god is/are all gods...........
and all are beyond our comprehension.

You can believe that if you like. I like to think that gods are beyond comprehension because they don't exist. If they did we could comprehend them. We understand the rest of the universe pretty well. Why should a measurable concept of a god be beyond our comprehension?
And if it is not measurable then what function do they fill? The Higgs boson (god particle?)

There have been a bunch of new and old gods in human mythology.

Encyclopedia of Gods: Over 2,500 Deities of the World
    https://www.amazon.com/Encyclopedia-Gods-Over-Deities-World/dp/0816029091

Who has the hubris to declare which god is the true and only god? Especially if god is incomprehensible?

Whoever lives in The Vatican and can raise more $$ and muster a bigger army than his Muslim / Hindu / Inca / Pagan / Buddhist / whatever counterpart.
And they understand their god perfectly.

I think you may be underestimating theMuslim religion. The Muslim world is growing faster than the Judeo/Christian world.

Which is the world's fastest-growing major religion?

But you're right. There is nothing like a good bloody religious war. It's been too long .
