I often do not deal well with anti science folk in so far as I don't always find I enter the conversations with a respect that one should happily extend to all humans indeed all things if we want go deep. Being here has helped me be more respectful of anti science folk to a limited degree. The experience of encounter has caused me to often think how they see it. I was fortunate to have a mate who absolutely believed in tarot cards, was into much weird stuff... as you could expect I was critical presenting my scientific reality as an exclusion to his beliefs..you don't cook meat as that takes the life out of it..it never came up but I would bet..antivaxer...well he was now that I recall..I recall we had an argument about it..yes we did...no one won..latter however much latter probably three hours..the subject can up how his Mum was cured of some condition with injections...he knew I knew...but I bet he is still an antivaxer...folk send stuff they don't like before anything else to the recycle bin...convenient memory. But he drove me to realise that is how he saw the world. I am confused but in those moments that I can see it somehow the way they see it and then how they can only see the world and all this without judgement..well I would like to call it...enlightenment. Then casually recall that we have seven billion humans...mmm how many would you not agree with... And I must add tarot card mate could do anything, and had, building, mechanics, ...full cred ...I have mentioned him before... And so knowing a meeting with anti science usually goes downhill I resolve to be polite respectful and any angst be released by mild non offensive humour...it can go wrong usually does...but I have learnt if you cause offense settle things down with a sincere apology giving in effect respect to their world and more importantly them as a human being. Meeting them with a condescending lecture is rarely taken as respect if it hints at arrogance. And one need remember you can not change belief with facts or logic...or force..you could beat a man half to death and he will still believe whatever it is he believes. Now I like a fight or an argument perhaps more than I should but when I retain the approach of putting human respect first I remain calm and continue to think straight...troll resistant as well. I do get worked up in an unhealthy way when I see "it's only a theory" If someone is reasonable I will explain the concept of theory in science and suggest reading Carl Poppers philosophy clarification of what science is, is not, what is required that justifies the respect of all reasonable humans. I don't need to explain it to most. But if you insist in me explaining it to you, I must first ask you some questions... Are you aware of the concept of something being denser? and Hotter? Can you describe to me what the BB theory of universal evolution basically is? Are you aware of the Planck epoch? and t+10-43 seconds? Just a sentence or two river, then I'll commence your mainstream education as simply as possible convey to you what is seen as the superforce.
Explaining to them can be difficult, but on some occasions, it is impossible when they just do not want to learn, and have some inane interpretation about the universe, life and everything, and what generally makes it worse, is coupled with delusions of grandeur, when they pretentiously try and refute the standing accepted model, in favour of myths debunked hypotheticals and nonsense. Yep, generally used by brain-washed creationists, but on other occasions, like this one, also used by ignorant people as described in the first paragraph.
