More seriously, I would like to point out that Carl Sagan, as well as being a broadcaster, actually was a working scientist. Mind you, I wouldn't call him the "Darwin of our time" either. (Blasphemy!)

    are literal astronauts of filmography
sheer mind bending talent that goes beyond normal human comprehension.

david sits right next to many animals, watches them, has spent a great deal of time in various habitats
you may have a miss aligned view based on only a couple of later documentary's where due to his age he has had to keep very short visits to some very extrem places.

and considering he is a British living national treasure if he was gravely injured or became sick in a foriegn place, there would be considerable trouble for whom ever was found at fault.
that trouble would be ... significant ... that aside ...
insurance company's and film studios know how much he is valued , his doctor knows he is not the 25 year old world traveler that he use to be.

pandering to any concept to invalidate his legitimacy to not being boots on the ground is just nonsensical
his entire life has been boots on the ground for as long as he can without him becoming injured(or in many instances dead via wild animals and treacherous climate conditions and habitats).

imagine Darwin as we know him today said
"right you lot, im off on the Beagle for 6 months to sail the seven seas"

our modern comprehension of intellectual value to culture and science is vastly improved for the average person(a sense of my thread true meaning)

what did Darwin offer the average working class person and their family ?
what has Attenborough done for science for the populace ?
Attenborough has facilitated Darwin to the common people
like Darwin gave theory to scientists
Attenborough gave science to the family at home in the living room

meanwhile along the way making massive contributions by generating science funding
1st ever seen film of species
    many 1st's

one could postulate David is gods divine wisdom to deliver Darwin to the common people

none too soon for climate change and the slap in the face that seems to be required to wake up to it.

anyone care to try and pick apart my comparibles ?

No what is happening here is you are failing to be impartial and as a result dishonest. If only you could see that, instead of your tiresome support of forum mates.
And obviously you apparently missed a remark of one of your mates......
Naturally you will have some reason or other for justification of that remark also.

i must admit the sexually degenerative sexist paradigm lured insult of "he gives good voice"
i found to be extremely poor taste

leaving out just enough to subjectify the insult mimicry
but she gives good head...(traditionally perverse expression about the intellectual ability of women being only worth of, being a sexual object)

clearly troll attempting to set up a position to play innocent of

you think it wasn't noticed ?
    wrong

i waited this long to see if you would re-tract it and correct yourself.
    but i see you didn't

My agenda is science and the scientific method. Your's apparently is protecting a couple of mates from big bad paddoboy.
Try reading through the thread again then, honestly, and without your obvious agenda.
And James dear, your moderation of me has no effect on me other then quickly losing the little respect I made have had for you.
I maybe a layperson, but I do try and stick to the scientific method and reading the gist of a post, rather then acting like a jerk and belittling a great man with snide remarks like "He has a nice voice"
You probably missed that also, but if you are aware of it, you'll find my part in this thread did not start until that jerk remark was made.

A tv presenter is a tv presenter, Attenborough is a tv presenter. He's a national treasure? So what, why is being a national treasure in U.K. important, Jimmy Savile used to be a national treasure.

Attenborough has made ordinary people interested in animals, nothing else (and you can thank advances in technology for most of that), his name will be mostly forgotten within a 100 years of his death by the average person, unlike Darwin, whose name will always be known by the average person, such was the impact of his work.

I like and respect Attenborough and his achievements, but anyone who thinks he's comparable with Darwin needs to see a doctor.

You do go on and on and on...

After further review I now realize David is much more than the Darwin of our time, I think he is the Jesus of our time!

    Can you be done now?

I think most, if not all, of us agree that Attenborough has made some great nature documentaries, and has contributed to public life in a significant way. I don't think there's really much more to say other than that there is some residual disagreement about bestowing the title of "Darwin of our time" on him.

Maybe we're done then (he suggests, with head inclined in a hopeful query)?

Or is there a need for more bloodletting?

Your choice to go from the sublime to the ridiculous is your choice. When you finally find your intestinal fortitude and admit you were a jerk in saying "he has a nice voice" then perhaps you may gain some respect. But that will never happen with an ego like yours.

Again James let me say your moderation of me has no effect on me other then quickly losing the little respect I made have had for you.

This fucking mess started at post 12 with an uneducated irrational remark attempting to belittle Attenborough. My reply word for word was.....
You would really need to be a total jerk to agree with river.
As confusing a style of posting that "Rainbow Singularity"does have, it is in this case obvious what message he is trying to convey. Good speaking voice??? Is that the sum of your opinion of this great Naturalist and film maker is? or as Rainbow Singularity has says, are you just engaging in some form of purile self righteous pedant?
This Naturalist at the age of 93, has done, and is doing more for the planet, science and the environment then you could ever think of doing. And you then smugly claim, "good speaking voice"?
He is a true living treasure.

    from wiki.....
"A fossilised armoured fish discovered in Western Australia in 2008 was named Materpiscis attenboroughi, after Attenborough had filmed at the site and highlighted its scientific importance in Life on Earth.[96] The Materpiscisfossil is believed to be the earliest organism capable of internal fertilisation."
Attenborough spent his childhood collecting fossils, stones, and natural specimens. ... Attenborough was educated at Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys in Leicester and then won a scholarship to Clare College, Cambridge in 1945, where he studied geology and zoology and obtained a degree in natural sciences.

David Frederick Attenborough OM CH CVO CBEFRS FLS FZS FSA FRSGS (/ˈætənbrə/; born 8 May 1926)[2][3] is an English broadcaster and natural historian. He is best known for writing and presenting, in conjunction with the BBC Natural History Unit, the nine natural history documentaryseries forming the Life collection that together constitute a comprehensive survey of animal and plant life on Earth. He is a former senior managerat the BBC, having served as controller of BBC Two and director of programming for BBC Television in the 1960s and 1970s. He is the only person to have won BAFTAs for programmes in each of black and white, colour, HD, 3D and 4K.[4][5]

Attenborough is widely considered a national treasure in Britain, although he himself does not like the term.[6][7][8] In 2002 he was named among the 100 Greatest Britons following a UK-wide poll for the BBC.[9] He is the younger brother of the director, producer and actor Richard Attenborough,[10] and older brother of the motor executive John Attenborough.
    ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

By the way, since this apparent "sickness" by some, that in Australia we call "tall poppy syndrome" has spread somewhat, Carl Sagan is certainly a scientist of some note and will certainly go down as the greatest educator of our time. Another great that I have also seen belittled to some extent was Stephen Hawking. Yeah, it appears on this forum, that tall poppy syndrome is alive and well, and propagated by some that obviously have personal delusions of grandeur, in having failed to gain the fame by those greats such as Attenborough, Sagan and Hawking.

    yes, lets....
Of course I have an agenda...it's called science and the scientific method.
I'm not out to foster further friendships or otherwise on this forum, and state my case/s as I honestly see them. You should try that James. Some have religious agendas, that's a fact, and some are simply anti mainstream science for no good reasons.
You along with the fool that made the "he has a nice voice" comment, also have some baggage left over from a thread where I questioned the motives of some women with regards to assault and such, and two cases of false claims made by these people, who in my opinion are pretty fucking low.
It appears this ruffled a few feathers prompting the fool that made the 'nice speaking voice" attempted put down, to call me a jerk.

Obviously I don't entirely go along with some of the extreme political correctness and extremes of views put by some now as apparent gospel. My opinions stand on that to, and have been reinforced many times since in banks, supermarkets, etc with my general off the cuff greetings/remarks or whatever such as "love"when addressing a female.
And my opinion and stance stands on this issue entirely as I have continually expressed...Darwin showed us the diversity of life we call evolution and the rest is history....Attenborough has acquired degrees and conducted a career in film making, showing us the diversity of evolution, the dangers of climate change and species extinction, and bringing these to ordinary folk, along with some remarks and suggestions re ID and such. Obviously this does not go down well with some, despite the fact that the Catholic church now recognise Darwin's evolution.
I would also envisage that Darwin would be just as put off and annoyed by the belittling remark at post 12, as I was.
It's a shame some people are unable to see past their nose, and make such inane stupid childish remarks, driven by an agenda probably associated with the initiator of the thread. He should consider to try engaging brain before putting finger to key board.
