I came across the video below and thought, "I respect" the elderly, now I borderline fear them! Especially if I lived in the USA!

You should respect everyone and you should give the elderly more slack than you might give someone else if they are moving slow, confused, etc. You also shouldn't assume that the elderly are mentally any different than anyone else unless you know that to be the case.

Getting old is not for the timid and you never know what physical ailments are at play.

I made some effort in life that might have earned respect. But I'll settle for fear.

I'm 68. You should respect me if I've done anything worthy of respect. Don't respect me just because I'm not dead yet.

It's a generic comment. It doesn't apply in every case.

I think I might rephase it to say "It's a good practice to respect your elders unless you've been given evidence to the contrary".

As an old bastard of 75 years now, I am well aware of some of my short coming's, particularly with regards to fucking bullies and the like. And as a 75 year old, I say to all you young whipper snappers, I'm there, you have yet to get there!!!!

A couple of months ago, I had cause to use public transport, which I don't do to often. A woman hopped on the bus, and as all seats were taken, I offered her mine. She was literally flabbergasted and at first refused my offer, telling me I deserved it more. I otherwise insisted though, and she finally gave me a peck on the cheek and took the seat for the remainder of her journey.

My cup is half full but my brain is fully functioning and it indicates that no one will live forever.

Respect is a given not earned, its just too important to be considerate to others.

"To be considerate of others you must be rich, to be considerate is the same as being wise." - me

How about a policy of respecting everybody until they have squandered their third chance at redemption?
