He wasn't suggesting to seek out suffering, but it's often unavoidable, so try to understand it somehow. Try to find a purpose through it. Try to find meaning in it, even. This is philosophy, you're welcome to disagree with Nietzsche, though.
Oh, I get that. There are three reason people romanticize suffering: 1. They've been lucky and the most they've suffered is a broken wrist, so they dramatize it into the whole redemption nonsense. 2. They have power over other people and want to exploit every available resource to keep and get more. Hardship is such a resource: the more miserable people are, the easier it is to convince them that their misery will buy them out of their misery. 3. They've got an incurable illness or injury and need to turn it into an asset somehow. (hint - FN was a 3) It has none. There is none. You have to make it up. Some people can make BS sound more plausible and palatable than others. Thanks, I will.
That sounds like good advice to me Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! That sounds like a set-up which will likely cause the need for a psychiatrist soomer or later Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Too bad you can't debate this with him. This type of reasoning of course, is subjective. You can certainly see no purpose to suffering, while someone else might. As much as life shouldn't about seeking suffering, it should also not be solely about seeking pleasure. Either will leave one in despair, I believe.
Hmmm... "solely about seeking pleasure" is what drives my life... but mayb we mean diferent thangs by it cause i dont get the "despair" part.???
I wouldn't want to. We wouldn't have a language in common. I can still have sympathy for him, but I doubt he could have any for me. Of course, and I told you why they want to. Why go to opposite extremes? It's neither. Life is about living. It has no purpose: it just is. Sane individuals of any species seek happiness and avoid unhappiness. Happiness is not pleasure in the superficial sense; it's as complex as the entity which pursues it. Suffering can also be complex. But pain is simple. It's the thing all sane life-forms try to avoid.
cultural compliance compliance to be accepted into positions of power & authority the intellectual explanation behind the bias given to men to assume power & authority by virtue of gender "being born to be a leader" etc etc facets of that same mansplaining exist inside conventional conservatist religion. out of the general majority of religions, hindu is the only one that places women as being in godly positions of power(& wiccan & paganism) the majority of the worlds religious population , muslim & christian and Hindu(cultural practice), place women as second class to all positions of power and authority. the essence of the deity is more so used as a sense of fate in the conventional religious modalities. this is seen in the attribution of female gender to male used machinery.
Live as you wish. You don’t have to agree with Nietzsche. But if you don’t know what he means, I’d recommend reading his views.
When you said... "Either will leave one in despair, I believe."... i thout that was you'r view an i woud discuss it wit you.!!!
I very much doubt it! But for those so afflicted, sane creatures such as myself have devised means of relieving the pain without diminishing the gain.
Why? To one up me? We all have our own existential beliefs. Such beliefs are subjective. If I got the sense that you or Jeeves were interested in having a genuine discussion, I would join in. I liken some discussions on here to having a conversation in “real life” with people who can’t wait to get their words in. They aren’t listening to the other person speak, they’re just waiting for a pause so they can tell you that you’re wrong. Have at it. It’s boring to me
There is NO purpose to life Never has been Never will be find meaning within our suffering If you are suffering a headache, in all likelihood, you are suffering a headache. You may wish to did deeper for the CAUSE, dehydration - brain tumor, for the purpose of alleviating the suffering But there is no deep, for want of a better word, spiritual meaning to suffering Meaning of pain = something not running smoothly = correct the cause Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
They didn't have the means to correct it; all he could do was explain about it. Had he been cured as a child, his whole career path might have been entirely different. So, if there was purpose in his suffering, it was the sacrifice of one man to the philosophical whims of many.
Beg pardon Didn't have means to correct. OK so far So, if there was purpose in his suffering, it was the sacrifice of one man to the philosophical whims of many Who decided to sacrifice this one man via the philosophical whims of many? Edit - who were the many? And what result were the many hoping to achieve? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Not via; to, or maybe for, or incidentally. He did. All his fans and students. It's philosophy! It ponders, reflects, argues, debates, lectures, whines, exhorts, upbraids, occupies, chivvies, irks, prods, enlightens, amuses, outrages, inspires, confuses, confounds, and tickles. It doesn't achieve.
