True story - Met a woman in a bar in Belfast once. We said we'd have dinner on Friday. Friday morning she called me and said "sorry, the shop next to the restaurant got bombed so we have to find a different place. I'll meet you at X and we will go from there." The IRA had struck again. Later she told me she had always wanted to visit LA, but was worried she'd be shot due to all the road rage shootings. This, from a woman who has had to change her plans several times due to bombings in her home city. We are all comfortable with what we are used to - no matter how dangerous.
Met a guy in the US when hitching on the back of a small truck between Arizona and S. Francisco. He told me that he would sleep out in the open in the town (could have been LA so long ago now) and was once woken up in the night by someone trying to break his head with a piece of rock /slab or something. Still loved his country and told me there would always be someone to give you a helping hand (which I can believe) . Was only there the once . It is some f*** weird place . I doubt I will ever go back
North America is full of crime, everyday has murders and yet if you stay away from certain neighborhoods you are generally going to be fine. I wouldn't currently, as a tourist, be driving a car around indiscriminately in Brazil or Venezuela. The only countries in S. America I have personally visited are Venezuela, Brazil and Argentina. The only country I wouldn't visit at the moment is Venezuela. As long as you are self aware, you should be pretty safe in Argentina, Chile and Ecuador. If you pick the right places to go you should be pretty safe most anywhere.
Woah woah woah there Tex. Speak fer yerself. Canada is #72 on that list. Homicide is really heard for us because we have to share our gun. And bullet.
North America doesn't need Canada to still be full of crime. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
