And the mask comes off. These people cannot be persuaded, reasoned with, or granted respect, to any good end. They are, as James Gandolfini's character in "The Drop" put it in describing one of them, fucked in the squash. They have to be beaten, straight up.
We have a thing called respect for the office, and why would we put someone there who we are at all unsure about in relation to his character? Surely there are many other qualified candidates.

From our national broadcaster, ABC.net "Senator Dianne Feinstein, the committee's senior Democrat, called Mr Kavanaugh's remarks unseemly for a judicial nominee. "This was someone who was aggressive and belligerent. I have never seen someone who wants to be elevated to the highest court in the country behave in that manner." I would have thought some one attempting to gain sauch high judicial seat would have behaved in a more disciplined manner?
I do not have cable television but none the less. Flake is a man leaving the Senate when real conservatives need a man like him (no offense to women intended). This whole situation requires more insight. I have no problems with Kavanaughs' credentials. I do have a problem with his partisanship. This was front and center yesterday. The Democrats used cheap political games by holding Fords letter to her representative from the panel. They could have respected her privacy while asking questions about his youth. The Republicans are correct to be upset about dirty politics but they have an obligation to due diligence. They seemed to have rejected the accusation based solely on politics instead of the facts (Graham). I appreciate people like Mr Flake. Someone who gives faith in bipartisan. (I'm glad to see your spelling has improved cluelesshusband heh)
I have satellite (in Australia) so I don't have a dog in this fight Main channels I watch Local news Sky which is with Fox Fox News American CNN The Kavanaugh cage fight (you can't write this stuff) has been interesting I'm not good enough to punt when D's are back or when they will get to nominate but if I was a R this would be my game plan Set up a small department, out in the open, which would make a list of all judges who might be nominated by D's in the future Comb through their past back to when they came out of nappies Post a copy of the results to the relevant judge (just relevant to them) with a cover letter saying FOR YOUR INFO (nothing else) Any judge nominated by the D's will understand Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
why cant the panel be 50/50 dems & repubs ? and the nominee needs a 60% vote to win(it should not be a competition) it seems that the air of the position is to be beyond reproach. such people should stand out clearly and be fairly well documented to the legal system. there should be no assuption of them being a hard core party person and be independantly reliable to vote on the issue not to follow a party. how far have they strayed from the path i wonder. and more soo how much tax payer working class money are they spending on this knowing that their candidate is clearly opposed completely by the opposite side of the house. its all supposedly about moral legal values being upheld for the little guy n girl, when in reality they appear to look like aristocrats feeding like pigs off the public purse at the expense of (one easy better use of the public tax)health care for dying children.
I am embarrassed that this is happening. I'm glad someone is finding joy in our discourse. This has more weight on what democracy means in the world than you may realize with your satellite T.V. but hey. Aussies and the States have always shared values even if our politics have differed heh
It should be the kids in the sand pit who should be embarrassed Well not as funny as Two and a Half Men or Big Bang Theory and no blood spilt (saw enough of that driving ambulance and casualty department nursing) Kavanaugh dishes up legal mental gymnastics mixed with political stupidity Democracy ha don't make me laugh. No belay that. Make me laugh it might be the only thing i get out of you for the taxes I pay Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Flake's behavior is cowardly, like that of the rest of the Republican Congress. He rode the orcline into office, dealing in slander and garbage and lies, pushing the tax cut and deregulation agenda of his financial backers without the smallest nod to principle or reason. Now he is faced with a hard choice, with the remains of his soul at stake: will he refuse to dance with the ones who brung him, just because they're horrible people doing horrible things? Will he finally grow a pair and a backbone and speak the truths he knows to the powers he fears, or will he cavil and compromise and keep his place at the wingnut welfare trough in his retirement? There's significant money and status involved, see - the trough is for the loyal, the animals who are more equal. He would pay a real price for voting against his Party, and Trump is his Party. If he hadn't been the spineless collaborator he was for so long, one could almost sympathize with the guy. This is probably not the reputation he hoped to leave behind his Congressional service. No, they didn't. Maybe they should have gone full Republican, only in their case without the wholesale invention and slander that Republicans require. For example: Maybe they should have seated Monica Lewinsky directly behind Kavanaugh on TV, and used the pretext of Senatorial inquiry to revisit Kavanaugh's role in that Senate inquiry - including the specific language and rhetorical techniques he had employed, and the same respect for the dignity and person of the witness he showed at the time. Made him deny each and every detail of his assaults, each and every detail of his drunken frat behaviors, each and every use of terms such as "boof" and "triangle", each and every salacious and easily believable detail of everything he has been plausibly accused of (or could be, given the facts), on camera, one at a time. They have already failed - completely - in their obligation of due diligence. More than that, they have actually obstructed due diligence attempted by others. They are correct about nothing, absolutely nothing at all, in this matter. They are the source of the dirty politics, all of it, in this matter. When they get upset and throw their inevitable tantrums, they are just lying some more, grandstanding some more, campaigning some more. There is not an honorable one among them.
For the uninformed: The United States of America is NOT a democracy! We are not even a true republic wherein all citizens are represented equally, and never were. If you expected this country to be one of the above, then you are most likely disappointed. And, here's the kicker: There ain't a damned thing that you can do about it.
So your entire news feed is strongly rightwing biased, all of your news about the US solidly Republican framed. You should at least be aware of that, so you can allow for it a little if you want to. You can't correct for it completely, of course, because you don't have the information you would need. You could fulfill your responsibilities as a citizen with a vote. If it made no difference, the money guys would not be spending hundreds of millions of dollars to prevent you.
Until Flake demonstrates that his balls dont have to be squeezed befor an ounce of decency apears… hes still just anuther rotten at the core republican.!!!
I'm always amazed and amused when folks on the right bring out this meme, which is by the way patently dishonest, in order to justify their autocratic ambitions. The United States is a constitutional republic but a republican form of government isn't inconsistent with democracy. By definition republics are democracies. Contrary to your assertion the United States is a democracy. It's a representative democracy. That's why we have elections. As much as you Republicans hate democracies and free and fair elections, it doesn't make them go away. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic
