Well, I don't think most people want to think or dwell on their mortality. I think most people understand everyone dies but they keep hoping they will be the exception. It's just not something people like to think about. They do what they need in order to not burden their love ones and that's about it. Two, some people and some families, including mine, just aren't that expressive. We are suppose to just know. Back in my youth men were supposed to be big and strong and relatively unemotional. Men were suppose to be like John Wayne: the strong silent types.
Why must this relate to one's potential death though? Where is the downside on reflecting on your life while you still have time to do something about it, such as , say, tell your friends, family and loved ones (and perhaps enemies) how you feel? Why wait?
Death-bed confessions can be dangerous if you survive. In Kind Hearts and Coronets, Alec Guinness is about to be executed for a crime he didn't commit. At the last minute, he is proven innocent and released. As he leaves the prison he realizes that his written confession for the crimes he did commit is still in his cell.
Social Trends with death life insurance sales may be able to monetarise it in a small way but with many people. so there is a potential it could be a bit of a money spinner, or it could blow up in the face of the comnpany or person trying to market it. i am guessing you have thought about the idea of your own position ? do you feel you wish to engage more with expressing your ideas ? have you started writing ? maybe make a web site and start posting to it. publish a book and give it to a national library. i note people who seem to have the best interests of the beter side of society do things rather than say things. they leave a legacy of acts which directly help future generations regardles of those future generations knowing about it. i am lucky to have met several such people.(they dont walk around with shiny halos on, you would never pick them in a crowd) they dont run about trying to force their ideas down other peoples throats. they just get on with doing things, building a better tomorrow. it appears the age of the narcissist is in full swing in the usa, such self important selfish people wish to always have the last word as if it is a force over others. stalin, hitler etc etc erecting monuments to the facists ego doesnt make the future generations better off. librarys, schools, parks, learning institutions, houses, museums, forests, harbours, farms, power plants etc etc ... these things make future generations better off if your only concerned with being heard, then thinking in the third person is what some may modernly term "subconscious narcissistic defense"(this is my pet subject i have been studying for the last year which appears to be the next social evolutionary awarenes step up)
Then your saying that the only people that have " final words " are the rich . Final words should be able to be expressed by any body .....
