Would we be any worse off without the mind's constant chatter? Would our interactions with the world be more spontaneous and genuine if not first evaluated with thought? Does the mind rob us of the present moment with a continuous stream of thought?

A while back I listened to a coworker complain how he needed external noise to help block his thoughts at night so he could sleep. I had no answer for his problem. I mean, how do you get off the hamster wheel?

    Hi Bowser

    Get plastered and pass out.☺

Have a good hobby or a couple so if you get overdone say with the guitar you can pick up the drawing book and so on... then your head fills with exciting plans and you dont mind laying awake thinking☺ the next art thing or something with the guitar or photography. I plan countless telescopes and mounts ... I dont mind thinking about those things working out problems and better ways.
I came up with that Dragonnfly idea and although someone else was thinking similar it is great to know my approach made sense.
It gets so deep...a major advance so I was right if you know what I mean. Thoughts rewarded with the pleasure your idea worked so well...its a personal thing ..it makes me happy about thinking all the time.

I have a mount that I designed that is a world beater and I often lay awake for hours 3d ing it in my mind...run little movies to work out stuff.

The astronomy has me just thinking about the gear and things to improve etc it goes on and on and the next program to learn the next level of sophistication upcoming targets and like today just thinking about what it would be like in a globular cluster...the Suns are not far apart and say we see say 3000 in a globular you would see 170000 ...imagine that view...they are relatively close say a light year and closer in the central areas may be only the diameter of the solar system but I dont know what the boundary is they use...anyways it would be magnificent...and I thought ...imagine if inside these globular clusters there were planets with highly advanced species and what if the looked exactly like us and they travel between planets because they are closer and its like the city part of the universe...

And it is the same for the countless globular clusters out there with millions of inhabited planets in each and they all look like us...for some reason we have evovled a common body....in fact we find every star in every gallaxy has an Earth like planet full of humans more or less advanced than us.

I hope that gives you somethingvto think about.

And with a great hobby you cant wait to wake up so you can make more plans fix stuff ... racing something is good...you days are full everything is about the next race your exercise food social life purchases plans everything.

They are all distractions for the mind, right?

And when you are thoroughly addicted to it, your mind will have something else to think about.

I actually don't think renewable prescriptions are written/intended. Could be a small prescription of: "Chill out and get your shit together". I don't think it is prescribed for things like schizophrenia.

Much like the opioids were intended to help with pain?

If you find you cant stop thinking about things think about the possibility ...
Concentrate on ones insignificance and you will find peace..you are looking for peace...
Imagine trillions of Earths all packed full of humans...jusr think of all the possibilities societies and economies different but all the humans are like us....just think about that as you nod off...but imagine and go to each planet ...

Why journey elsewhere when we have a perfect life/world right here? Even if it's just an exercise of imagination, isn't it a simple pleasure to just rest your head on a pillow and close your eyes?

Valium is an addictive drug in treatments for anxiety, insomnia and withdrawal. It could be used for withdrawal from opiate drugs.

Marijuana is NOT a physically addictive drug. It's active ingredient is not an opioid, but a cannabinoid (hence cannabis).

Please erase that terrible untruth from your mind. However it will allow you to explore new dimensions in thought......

, without adverse consequence if used responsibly.

In many cases marijuana offers effective relief from many ailments. This plant is worthy of intensive study , not the least for its massive beneficial effects on the environment.

I smoked the stuff when I was much younger. It only made me feel drugged. I think it harmless for the most part, but I can't remember ever really enjoying the affect it had on me.

That's the point. You were able to quit without any adverse compulsions, no?

...maybe it's because I'm on the phone with a Kiwi...

I have a white noise generator by my bed. It helps Boss Lady not hear what I'm saying in my sleep.

I have this problem. I have developed a number of coping tools to get to sleep.

Some form of distraction, mindfulness, meditation, or relaxation techniques can sometimes get you away from your constant worry and thoughts. Everybody is different.

I suppose so. I can clear my mind at night without much effort. I do find it a challenge during the day. My mind likes to give things names or place things in categories, but that's what the mind does.

Andreas Vollenweider does the trick for me. Headphones, close eyes and drift, very soothing.
