Denialism - In the psychology of human behavior, denialism is a person's choice to deny reality, as a way to avoid a psychologically uncomfortable truth. Denialism is an essentially irrational action that withholds the validation of a historical experience or event, when a person refuses to accept an empirically verifiable reality.In the sciences, denialism is the rejection of basic facts and concepts that are undisputed, well-supported parts of the scientific consensus on a subject, in favor of radical and controversial ideas. The motivations and causes of denialism include religion and self-interest (economic, political, financial) and defence mechanisms meant to protect the psyche of the denialist against mentally disturbing facts and ideas.

In the field of psychology, the Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people of low ability have illusory superiority and mistakenly assess their cognitive ability as greater than it is. The cognitive bias of illusory superiority comes from the inability of low-ability people to recognize their lack of ability; without the self-awareness of metacognition, low-ability people cannot objectively evaluate their actual competence or incompetence.

So are people of higher ability immune from this effect ,or perhaps less (more?) prone to it?
Perhaps equally prone but the disorder goes under a different name?

Too difficult to say whether no 1 is completely immune. I can only guess few if any. Some are less prone to it & some are much less prone to it. Many seem immune to it at times yet not at other times. I do not know how many people were studied or how much. I have seen it all my life but did not have a name for it.
There have been surveys asking people whether they are better than average drivers. I do not recall the numbers but much more than half answered yes. There have been others, including asking workers whether they are in the top 30% of best workers at their company.
Sometimes it seems the worse someone is at something the more likely they will believe or claim they are much better. Tho averagers & normals also seem to think they are better than that.
It is probably valid all the time for few if any & might not be valid for quite everyone.
Whatever degree higher ability people are immune to it, that is valid probably only or mainly concerning the things they are very good at. No 1 is very good at everything.
It may be partly caused by cognitive bias in that people recognize other people's flaws & mistakes but not their own.
It is 1 of many problems which make it difficult to recognize & deal with reality.
I think it is a good guess that it is mostly caused by the makeup of the brain but I think positive & negative influences on children can make a difference.
