QUOTE="DaveC426913, post: 3446229, member: 19467"]That one is more than mere convention on a forum. It is technically libel, and can have legal implications beyond a forum discussion. (I'm not suggesting that's the case here, simply that your flouting of communication standards is escalating.)

Quoting someone is explicitly saying "this person said these exact words" You must not alter their words.

    Responses belong outside the quotes.[/QUOTE]
Technically libel? . . . so you are also a lawyer? . . . . then sue me, or ask Admin to permaban me. I explained above that the BLUE TEXT insertions (for specificity) into your original text were my responses to your post. Otherwise, unless I am mistaken, I believe your text remains exactly intact - the BLUE TEXT insertions are NOT YOUR exact words - they are MY insertions. (Even) A lawyer should be able to comprehend and distinguish this. Pls give me an authoritative specific source that supports your contention that I am 'flouting of communication standards' (quote DaveC). Mods Please clarify this issue!!

DaveC: Pls (abbreviation, by convention, for the word please) enquire of the Scifoums Admin/Mods who is actually the troll here . . . . BTW (acronym, by convention, for the words By The Way): You have excerpted only a portion of my entire post/reply to yours, and not my entire post. Such a partial 'quote' may not stand alone and confuse readers regarding the intended context of my previous post. You should know better! . . . . "Don't do it." (quoted excerpt from DaveC426913, post #82).

    Mod Note

Really, this kind of thing is getting ridiculous.

Karen, when you quote someone else on this site, it is expected that you distinguish your words from theirs, by using options like the quote function, indenting and changing the font, etc. Not to mention providing links and correctly attributing their words and works to them. The issue that has arisen in this instance is that you used the quote function (yay), but then typed your response into the quoted text itself (nay)..

This makes it hard to read and follow and know who or what you are quoting and where the quote ends and your own words begin. Reading it, just looks like it is a continuation of paragraphs, with some blue text on the end. Is it internet convention to not do that? Yes. If you have difficulty with the software or do not understand how to structure your posts to avoid this type of confusion, then ask and staff and members will be more than happy to guide you in that regard.

Sorry about lack of formatting, am in bed "resting" from surgery.. after being caught washing the dog this morning when I should be resting.. And was made to go straight to bed.. With painkillers.. So I now have angry resting face while "resting" and lack of patience for this kind of thing. And I hate typing on the tablet, so probably lots of spelling mistakes too..

[Mod Note: Learn to reply in coherent, conventional ways or expect to receive warning points for disrupting conversations.]
No, it is not technically libel. If an idiot in a hurry fairly attributes statements made falsely to the quoted person AND the quoted person is damaged by that false attribution, then a case could be made that it was libel in some jurisdictions. But as 1) this is the Internet where snark and hyperbole and disinformation campaigns thrive, and 2) karenmansker is an unrepentant troll and unreliable source, and 3) the bizarre content is in a bizarre pastel blue, and 4) your original content is linked via the up-arrow, so not even an idiot in a hurry would fairly be able to cite the quote as your words.
There are times and places when this is appropriate with proper editorial marks, such as ellipses and paraphrases in square brackets, provided the sense of the original is not damaged.
On this point, the moderation staff supports you.
Absolutely. But make sure you aren't misusing the report functionality when you do it.
[Mod Note: Clarification: karenmansker is a troll and the choice of using disrupting responses such as marking up text within the body of quotes in a way that makes them less accessible to reply and for alternate reading software, is just one of the ways this poster likes to unfairly call attention to such unworthy posts. If karenmansker continues on this path, it will be time for another thread split. ]

I don't share that belief, but that's the beauty of DNA manipulation. Mankind could design humans to fit whatever environment in which we find ourselves.

Who said life only exists inside a spacecraft? There are life forms which don't need spaceships to survive, e.g. water bears.

I think wrong to thing of the future of humanity as being made only of flesh. I expect humanity will blend with machines. Becoming a machine may become a natural part of our life cycle. Humans could spend part of their lives as flesh and another part as machine. The prospects are intriguing.
