Why did you join this forum?

I am not sure why I joined other than on the one hand mainstream science is supported those who are clearly anti mainstream have their say without getting immediately banned.

I think the tolerance of the moderators is wonderful.

The tussles and back and forth I find alarmingly entertaining.

Above all I like the steady flow of new information, particulary the dedication of plasma inferno posting most interesting reports.

I like the fact that politics and religion can be discussed perhaps argued upon.

If you would like to share why you became a member please do so but lets be possitive and not drift into grizzleland. That could be another thread if someone thinks it is called for.

Immoderate moderators on another site led me to seek another science forum.
And this one seemed to offer "the tolerance of the moderators".

I joined when my primary science website went down for a few days.

 

I joined both this and The Science Forum when I retired, in order to learn more about science and to share what I know with others. It has been a good way of prompting me to revise quite a lot of chemistry and physics and I find some of the topics raised here interesting (Plasma Infernol provides a good service on what's in the news, for instance.).

As I have explained on the other thread, I have come to the conclusion that some degree of tolerance for cranks and nitwits is important to the functioning of the forum, so I do not resent that in principle (provided the dose I receive of such people is controlled.

Real answer: I did it to learn and i'm learning.

 

I joined years back when it was a personal project of the owner, before there was moderation. It has evolved over the years. I suppose some topics raise my interest, so I drop in from time to time to have a look and maybe participate. I think it has a progressive bent where social and political issues are concerned, and it serves as a good indicator regarding the mindset of that train of thought.

 

I joined this forum awhile ago.

People were migrating from another forum it seemed.

 

I joined this forum because I thought it would help me improve my plans for world domination!

And here we are.

 

I joined when another science forum I participated in went belly up.
My main areas of interest are the astronomical and cosmological sciences and space exploration/travel.

 

And:
As with other science forums and the sculpture community, I have come to gain and share knowledge and insights.
My main interests have been clustered under anthropology; including, but not limited to, archaeology, psychology, paleoclimatology, philosophy, comparative mythologies, art, architecture, and urban planning/ecology.

To be honest, I think I joined this forum to argue with cranks and nitwits. Not that I hope to change their minds but it helps to clarify in my mind why they're cranks and nitwits.

 

I must've missed that step in the Scientific Method that says call anyone who doesn't conform to your beliefs or personal worldview "cranks" and "nitwits".

I can remember back years ago when this forum was just sticks and potatoes. "Sticks and potatoes!" you'd yell and then get undressed down to your underwear and wait on the edge of your seat in an intense sweat for those replies come rollin in.
