NASA astronaut Scott Kelly returns safely to Earth after one-year mission. It's probably the most often headline you'd read today. But he wasn't alone on a historic 340-day mission aboard the International Space Station. Russian astronaut Mikhail Kornienko spent the same amount of time in the same conditions on the same place. He also returned home. But somehow, he hasn't been mentioned in headlines like Kelly. I wonder why.

Because he wasn't a twin that spent a year apart from his brother in space, for one reason.

I've been following this. So fascinating. Glad they made it back alive. It's my dreamjob, to work for NASA, and go to ISS.

Watched it live on NASA TV when they left ISS, but couldn't stay awake for the whole landing.

I'm glad he's home . . . but for a different reason . . . I was getting real tired of seeing him and listening to him every time I turned on the NASA channel. (My wife and I were starting to shout out "The Adventures of Gnomes in Space" every time he was on camera.

Not that surprising to me. You grow about half an inch when you sleep due to the lack of gravity compressing your spine - imagine a year of that.

That's because you're a veritable wealth of knowledge. I wouldn't have thought it could be that much. I probably was concentrating on the predicted effect associated with breasts in freefall.

I wonder if his penus grew two inches. Now that would be one worthwhile effect.

I will miss him on ISS, but more women indeed..*pointing at self*
Imagine the reality of it all, a somewhere around 50 year old Bebelina up there, with no running water, drinking her own urine for a whole year. I would have to shave my head too, and make-up, can I bring my make-up at least?
I so have a crush on this guy, ever so gnomy, watched him too many times.

Astronaut Scott Kelly: Muscle soreness 'a lot higher than last time' after year in spaceWashington (UPI) Mar 5, 2016 - Scott Kelly is feeling the effects of his year-long mission in space a few days after returning to earth, he told the media Friday.
Kelly spoke about his return to earth at a NASA news conference and said his most recent stint on the International Space Station was the most taxing on his body, adding that it felt much longer than 340 days.

"I think the only big surprise was how long a year is," Kelly said according to the New York Times. "It seemed like I lived there forever. It seemed longer than I thought it would be."

His body exhibited various symptoms as it readjusted to the earth's gravity. He experienced fatigue and said soreness in his atrophied bones and muscles was, "a lot higher than last time." He also described a burning feeling on his skin, after experiencing far less physical contact while in orbit.

Some changes to his body that occurred in space were also quickly reversed, as kelly grew about two inches in space but returned to his previous height as gravity compressed his spine.

"He's been squished back to normal height," said Kelly's twin brother and retired astronaut Mark.

The brothers will undergo a series of medical tests as part of NASA's "Twins Study" to see how their body's measure up after spending a year in the varied environments of Earth and space.

US astronaut Scott Kelly said Friday he is battling fatigue and super-sensitive skin, but is back to his normal height after nearly a year in space.
