Haven't we all had fantasies about death? What will happen to you're awareness some believe that consciousness will halt. Is there a halt at all? Or if there is a halt is it permanent? Questions we may never answer. What do others think? Death we're are you going, if you can't answer that question while alive then would you not feel like you failed in life? Isn't this the ultimate question? Statistacally there is non zero chance that your conscious mind may survive death http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/sci...r-death-in-biggest-ever-scientific-study.html
Consciousness is an emergent property of the electro-chemical processes of the brain. When those processes stop (usually due to depletion of oxygen), consciousness ceases. Forever.
Will it seem like the last instant of your existence, with all the chemicals going crazy at the very end, lasts forever? As you gently fade into nothingness...
For in that sleep of death, what dreams may come, When we have shuffled off this mortal coil, Must give us pause.
There's a book: "Sum" (David Eagleman). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sum:_Forty_Tales_from_the_Afterlives An excerpt, published in "Nature" magazine (appropriate for this forum): https://books.google.com/books?id=umMBdtM9kpIC&pg=PA91&lpg=PA91&dq=David Eagleman afterlives&source=bl&ots=tW7_MPyLuO&sig=YOjomSQurz_zFGNsKFsw8cYbr5Y&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result#v=onepage&q=David Eagleman afterlives&f=false
I have ne reason to suspect consciousness is anything other than a function of the brain. When the physical processes in the brain cease, so should consciousness. Seems fairly obvious to me.
Why even think about death. We each enjoy a personal eternity as we cant comprehend when we got here and will not know when we go.. There is no more to it than that. Any speculation is unecessary. Looking for more than that makes no sense.
Currently I'm 95% sure that death is just the end. The "person" dies with the body, there is no soul or anything that can exist without the body. I have collected evidence that is compelling enough for me to say 95%, maybe even 99%. There are some reported cases of out of body experiences and perception, which are very difficult to explain. They account for my 1-5% of doubt. But I live and plan as if death is the final end. No heaven, no hell, no reincarnation. Just the end.
Yes, nothing left but the dust that we are made up of. I'll just return to the atomic matter that I was made up of to start off with. I really do not want to find another place to go to after death for my ex would be there to harass me forever and I've had enough of her here on this planet.
But first, please remove that morphine pump imbedded in your back and leach those drugs out of your system. I bet if we spoke with her, she'd tell us a different story. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Well then again consciousness in its most mature form is just information, so who knows for sure if any information that existed ever gets erased?
