I'm sorry to hear it. Hopefully this isn't the first in a series of strokes, which sometimes happens. But many people live many healthy years after recovering from a minor stroke. Despite my often being annoyed by him, I think that the world is a better place with a healthy and cognitively intact Dawkins in it.

My niece had a stroke a few years ago. She lost some verbalization ability initially, but everything is back to normal now. Alas, she smokes like a chimney. But at least she can take those blood-thinning meds now.

I heard an interview recently with Prof. Dawkins, interestingly, it sounded like he was being verbally harassed and his offer to present at a conference in Canada rescinded. While I'm not 100% sure, it sounded like the attack may have been from feminists who took offense at something he had said. If that truly was the case, then I'm somewhat stunned given Dawkins is about as liberal as one would imagine. Anyhow, in the interview he stated the morning of his stroke, he had been re-offered his speaking engagement in Canada.

People who are paying attention note that misogyny is a systemic problem that pervades even the most "liberal". (And especially the most "libertarian".)

Regardless, what Dawkins did was not merely offensive, but something that promoted the ongoing harassment of a specific person (in addition to supporting the harassment of women in general).
This may be the dumbest decision I've ever heard of.
