NBC: U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (LOL, what an idiotic name) recommends the Federal Government enforce mandatory screening for depression for all Tax Chattel over the age of 18.

    --o--
LOL.....nice, nothing could ever go wrong here

Who knows, if you're lucky, maybe the State Nanny will prescribe you some Happy-Happy Pills. You know, for the Good of Society. And, if for some reason you don't take your Federally Mandated Happy-Happy Pills, you lose your property, family, job, etc... Think of it as "Civil Forfeiture" until such a time the Federal Government Regulator living in your home thinks you've made a 'full' recovery and can return to being a productive Labor Cog in the Great Society.

    HAAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!

OMG, this is seriously 1984. Of course, Amoorikans will do what they're told. That's the nice thing about us Americans, not too sharp, but we make up for it in compliance. Those 12 years may not teach you to read or write well, but they sure as hell do teach you something. That much is coming up in Spades

I was thinking, maybe the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force could also oversee IQ testing? Now that would truly be a boon for "Society". Wouldn't you think? Don't you think society would be better if only people with an IQ of 110 and above had children? The science certainly suggests as much.

    Just putting it out there.

    LOL

If Americans are willing to subject themselves to State mandated 'Depression' analysis, which will be used to enforce State mandated 'Cures' and State mandated "Restrictions" over their (once) Constitutionally protected Civil Liberties, then let's think about the State mandating IQ testing. It's certainly more objective, predictive and correlates very strongly with proper child rearing.

What makes you think you have the legal right to procreate a new life into the world without having met the required State licencing? A component of which would, of course, be IQ testing.

    Something to consider.

I personally think ANY State mandated testing that restricts Constitutionally protected Civil Liberties is wrong. But, we Libertarians are what? Maybe 0.25% of the population. We understand we have to live in this Great Nation side by side with Statists. Therefor, we want to be part of 'team'. You know, offer up some solution. So, although we're naturally against State mandated testing for ANYTHING - yes, even including becoming a vet, doctor, or florist, if that's the way society thinks, surely we can 'put some ideas out there'.

It's an objective fact that low IQ Americans are more likely to resort to violence over words, more likely to end up in prison, and more likely to hit their children. You can look up the numerous studies yourself.

Don't you want children to have the best possible opportunities in life? If the State is going to mandate who is 'depressed', it seems just as reasonable to mandate who can parent. Given parenting involves authority over a child, I'd say it takes moral precedence.

And low IQ Americans are more likely to be right-wing bigots.

What if they had state mandated screening for cancer, would you still object?

    Good, less of those.

Of course I would object. Why would I be in favor of forcing people to undertake medical screening?!

I would be in favor of an Insurance company offering reduced premiums to members who freely decided to undertake a cancer screen, drug tests, etc...That's a win-win. Forcing people to do something against their will, OTOH, is immoral.

You do not only go to state educational institutes to get educated you also go to get indoctrinated/programmed.
If you're real smart and lucky you may undoctrinate yourself is a few decades

Here's the actual recommendation - for those unfamiliar with what happens to reality in the course of being arranged for posting by Michael: http://www.uspreventiveservicestask...tatementFinal/depression-in-adults-screening1

    And the published article: http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=2484345

Notice the category involved: : "Recommendations for Primary Care Practice".

Notice that the recommendation is not even an A grade recommendation - it's grade is B. Explanation: http://www.uspreventiveservicestaskforce.org/Page/Name/grade-definitions

Here are some other grade B recommendations, for the wingnut crowd to hyperventilate about:
    http://www.uspreventiveservicestask...ummaryFinal/chlamydia-and-gonorrhea-screening
    http://www.uspreventiveservicestask...oral-counseling-interventions-in-primary-care

And here's a really, really scary one, an A! Grade! Recommendation! - OMG the Feds are coming for you with anal probes!, line up and bend over:

If we're depressed do we not get to protect ourselves? That's backwards im the one in danger.

Y'know, not to beat this more than it deserves, but you'd think the Tribe That Rubs Shit In Their Hair would have learned by now that setting fire to it should be done only after at least a smidge of background info, no?

A Texas TV station (the OP link) nobody expects much in the way of reliable information from, of course, but that means no one with the brains God gave a ground squirrel would just take its word for anything - right?

Here's from the website, right at the top, first thing you run into, describing the relationship between this Task Force's recommendations and Federal mandates on the nation's citizenry:
