Is it possible one day maybe to harness gravity to our benefit or is that impossible I'm new to science I have no training but I'm fascinated how the universe works thanks

Dams harness gravity: gravitational potential energy (in water) is converted to electrical energy.

Gravity can be a hindrance as well as a helping hand.
Gravity certainly keeps us with our feet on the ground, but it also makes sending rockets and probes and craft into space a lot harder.

Every time we get useful energy out of something falling we are harnessing gravity. Dams are one example of that.

Gravity is ordered space by rotation.

You mean all the Dams/reservoirs associated with Hydel Power Plant.

Not entirely true. Please assist us in knowing more about 'Gravity assist" and associated stuff used in interplanetry space travel. [Your initial launch aspect is well taken.]

Hope this helps you to understand gravity assist.

Tom, you have seen the answers given so far, but is there some other kind of idea or way in which you thought we could use gravity?
Don't worry this is not a catch question, I'm thinking you may have something in mind.

    Ps. Dams are boring...

I prefer something more dynamic like using the power of the tides, the tides as you may know are raised by the moon and sun.

No it is entirely 100% true as all sensible forumites know.. Gravity hinders our efforts in getting space craft into orbit and further hinders us in getting the craft beyond Earth orbit.
eg: It was very easy for our six Apollo Moon Landings to lift off from the Moon and Astronauts can jump higher and further on the Moon due to its less gravity.
But hey! If you fell like elaborating on "gravity assists" then go ahead.
I'll certainly be here to give an honest appraisal and peer review of your interpretation of it, just as I did with your error ridden take on Hawking radiation, Gravitational waves, BH's , "Schwarzchild diameter" and GR.

At least it's predictable, so we know where to aim.

I would envisage you mean with regards to space travel?
As I said previously, gravity is a hindrance to us getting craft into and beyond Earth orbit. By the same token when we land men On Mars. it will be a lot easier to finally lift off from the planet, just as it was for the Apollo astronauts to lift off from the Moon, due to their respective smaller masses.
Also as origin showed, in post 11, our Voyager space probes 1 and 2, along with Galileo and Cassini/Huygens crafts and others, all gained momentum and speed from various "gravity assists" along their journey.

According to GR gravity is curved/warped spacetime in the presence of mass, so if ever we are able to control spacetime [say through the application of a Alcubierre drive] we probably are in effect having some control over gravity.

    Paddoboy,

Look below, and also I am sure you will remember what you typed under sweetpea handle, which was deleted later on..

Sweetpea with around 62 posts, very new, is on first name basis with Paddoboy who has around 15000 posts to his credit. Style of 'sweetpea' is identical to that of Paddoboy's, same smileys, combination of two dittto smileys, same propensity of giving links, similar use of language, both jumping to defend each other.

Paddoboy, Old acquintance with sweetpea ? both of you reside under the same roof ? Or 'Sweetpea' is a new handle you have created for yourself? Sock puppetry?

Admins/Mods, please look into, it is a very serious case, because both Paddoboy and sweetpea are posting to please each other. There is something fishy between the two.

Yep certainly is, whatever floats your boat.....But the product of your unusual baseless claims is of course the usual, being shown again and again and again, to be wrong.

The reason why you ignore your original stupid statement.

    Better luck tomorrow!

Its a fact, it is prominently evident that 'Sweetpea' and 'Paddoboy' handles are being used by the same person. You prove that 'swetpea' is not 'Paddoboy'. You have not denied it explicitly.
