Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! What do you think of cheerleaders? Should cheerleading be considered a sport? If you had kids would you let them join a cheer squad? Cheerleaders are stereotyped as snobby and dumb. Have you ever met an intelligent cheerleader? Did the cheerleaders you knew get fat after High School?
Oh, look here... A cheerleader porn thread. That'll go over well on Sci, I'm sure Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Never really met any cheerleaders tbh, doesn't seem to be such a big thing in the UK as is does over in the States. But if I had kids I certainly wouldn't have a problem with it if that's what they wanted to do. I'd Just be glad actually that they were interested in something! I guess the idea is a bit stereotyped, just like being in the chess club ect..., but you've only got to watch a show like glee or the film Billy Eliot to see that when it comes down to what's really important is that people should do what makes them happy, usually what their good at. I think in this respect any parent would surely be rightfully proud of their off spring for doing something they really enjoyed. This thread is also quite well timed because there's just been a new beer advert released in the UK that portrays a young guy enjoying being a cheerleader, now whilst the advert is very funny, as was intended, and also has led some newspapers to moaning that it portrays men as being stupid, it also has a rather more underlying message about it simply not mattering anymore the types of hobbies people can enjoy and gender stereotypes are starting go by the board. So, yes even more than ever now it really seems to be the case that it simply doesn't matter what other people think, what matters is that the people themselves are enjoying it, so if kids want to be cheerleaders why not? I'm going to post the advert though because it is funny Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Probably for the same reason I can't watch The Daily Show or South Park streams legally (copyright and licences).
The smartest person in my Grade 9 homeroom was a cheerleader. She was also very friendly. No, but I don't consider football a sport either. (It's a game, like checkers.)
A sport depends on skill, strength, etc. A game depends on rules. You can out-perform the other team in every way but still lose because one guy had one foot over an imaginary line.
Chess is a sport by your definition. Disc golf (and ball golf) are sports as well, with some reliance on strength, but not like weightlifting. I sure as hell want the skill not to let an unbalanced jerk kill or cripple me. An unskilled footballer won't win, and is liable to be hurt. An unskilled poker player, too. The line is a bit blurry...
To me anytime a "sport" is mentioned I always think that if it isn't supported by money, like most football both soccer and American football, then it could be seen as a sport to a certain degree. Little league baseball played by children with no businesses supporting it would be an example. Once the businesses step in to "support" those little league teams it stops being a sport and becomes a profession no matter what age. Another example is that in " professional" games and sports there's always businesses involved with sponsorship or direct involvement that makes it a business not a sport. No team or single player sport can be a sport when money is infused into it to give one team or another money that perhaps another team doesn't have available to them.
