The damage is cumulative. So yes, it is quite likely that her cancer had to do with her smoking. It is the same reason that doctors strongly recommend sunscreen for young children. Not for the skin cancers they will develop the next day, but to prevent the skin cancers they will develop in 30 years due to the radiation damage.

From what I have read the increased risk of breast cancer in women who were former smokers may be as high as 13%. So stating that all breast cancer deaths in former smokers is due to smoking is bull shit. Is smoking bad for you, yes, hell I quit 30 years ago and wish I had never started. I disagree with inflating the dangers to make a point, it makes me question all the data.

Agreed. But I didn't see a statement along the lines of "all breast cancer deaths in former smokers are due to smoking." Not all lung cancer or emphysema deaths are due to smoking, either - but a very large number of them are.

But that is just what the hospital told our friends husband; that if you were a former smoker your cancer would be attributed to the smoking. Now this is from my wife who was talking to the husband who got his info from the doctor, so there may be an issue with the transfer of the information to me.

I started smoking cigarettes when I was 11 years old. I came from the era of the Marlboro Man, Doctors smoking Camels, show me your Lark pack etc. It was 27 years later when I finally succeeded in quitting for good. Cold turkey, with the help of tons of carrots.

My acinar adenocarcinoma prostate cancer was caused by my exposure to lead and/or arsenic. I have just been through Da Vinci assisted radical prostatectomy (Dec 2012), 80 Grey of external beam radiation therapy over 40 sessions, and am just finishing up with almost 3 years of Eligard chemotherapy. I use a Pax vaporizer with a pinch of herb (.4 gram per) a couple of times a day now, began using that to stop the nausea attacks and to chill the anxiety attacks. Inhaling any kind of smoke is bad for you, am glad that the vape has come into its own as I suspect that is much better than smoking ciggies.

Can cannabis be brewed like tea leaves? Would that be a less harmful way of introducing the active ingredient (THC?) into the body? Or would such a method be ineffective, for example if boiling water broke down the chemical bonds?

Search for pot chai recipe, Daecon. Hope that answers your question.

Ah, cool. I saw references to THC being fat-soluble and not water-soluble but nothing about temperature, which I guess makes sense otherwise burning it would be pointless. So lattes all around.

I was thinking about how boiling vegetables reduces the nutrients, which is a completely different situation as you *want* the goodness to seep into the water. Or in this case, fat.

The active ingredients in cannabis evaporate at just under 400* F, where most vapes operate. They can be released into an oil like butter or olive oil by throwing the herb into boiling water, straining it then adding a bit of butter or oil and putting it in the freezer until you can scrape it off the top of the water. You can then put it in capsules or use it in a recipe like cookies. I don't much care for "medibles" though, as I like to titrate my dosage. I do not care to get stoned, just not puke or chill a bit. Pot brownies are the original edible pot. Same problem though, too easy to overdose.

Yeah. My first (and last) experience with cannabis was about a dozen or so years ago. A friend made some cookies and I ate two, as I didn't expect them to have any real effect - maybe make me feel a bit dizzy or whatever - big mistake.

It was an intriguing experience but unfortunately the cookies themselves made me feel sick, and that put me right off ever trying it again.

Sounds like too high (pun kinda intended) a dosage for a first timer, Daecon. If you ever do try again make sure to only ingest a little, wait 45 minutes to an hour before doing more so you don't keep piling on the THC.
