In the first part of a special BMJ series, Brian Deer exposes the bogus data behind claims that launched a worldwide scare over the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine, and reveals how the appearance of a link with autism was manufactured at a London medical school

Again, the above shows conclusively how much bunk and pseudoscience these claims promoted by anti vaccinators are.

I would prefer NOT being referred to as "sweet jesus" - and I was NOT attempting to "find a more disreputable site".

    So...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NaturalNews

Natural News (formerly Newstarget) is a website founded and operated by Mike Adams. It is based in Cedar Creek, Texas.[2]

It is dedicated to the sale of various dietary supplements, promotion of alternative medicine, controversial nutrition and health claims,[3] and various conspiracy theories,[4]such as "chemtrails", the purported dangers of fluoride in drinking water[5] (as well as those of monosodium glutamate[6] and aspartame), and purported health problems caused by allegedly "toxic" ingredients in vaccines,[3] including the now-discredited link to autism.[7]

Characterized as a "conspiracy-minded alternative medicine website", Natural News has approximately 7 million unique visitors per month.[8] Founder Mike Adams has been accused of using sockpuppet accounts to fraudulently increase the vote count in his self-nomination for a Shorty Award. The journal Vaccine accused Adams of spreading "irresponsible health information" through Natural News. He has also been accused of using "pseudoscience to sell his lies".[9]

I would say you hit the nail fair square on the head.

Yes, Kristoffer, when you, origin and others of your ilk, add nothing to the thread - other than personal attacks on other Members - you show that you are indeed, as you so eloquently Posted : as "Uatoabh!"

    Good-Bye, Kristoffer.

Yeah... sorry, but after all the trolling you have done, I think it's time to say

    Good-Bye, DMOE.

Factor in one reply-ban for DMOE, and perhaps we can get this thread back on track...

I wonder what anti-vaxxers hope to achieve?

Are they unwittingly trying to adhere to some twisted interpretation of Darwin's "survival of the fittest*"?

(*I have my own opinion on that concept, but best left for another thread.)

Sadly, a large number of the anti-vax crowd are not actually trying to harm children or go against modern science... the problem is, the "loud" anti-vaxxers, much like the media, are so loud that people believe them because, well, they read it on the internet, it must be true!

Our schools don't teach how to do independent research or analytic skills or critical thinking... so unfortunately, as our children mature into adults, a vast majority of them only "know" what they are told to know.

I think a huge part of the problem stems from idiotic celeb's who, for whatever reason, jumped on the anti-vax bandwagon (looking at you, ms playboy bunny).

If I remember correctly there's a site called Jenny McCarthy deathcounter or something like that where they keep track of easily avoided deaths caused by not vaccinating.

ETA: Bye dmoe, thanks for calling my quote of your nonsense word 'eloquent'.

I'm inclined to agree with the first paragraph.
It's hard to stop these misinformed people from putting their children's lives at risk, but one way is what the Australian Government is contemplating. No access to any social security payments and such.
Another method would be to automatically bring charges against those parents if their child did happen to die of a preventable disease.

We had a case in Sydney last week, not involving vaccinations but still horrendously upsetting........

Slapping therapy death of Sydney boy aged seven appalls Chinese medicine experts:

EXPERTS in Chinese medicine say they have never heard of “slapping therapy’’ or the self-proclaimed healer Hongchi Xiao at the centre of a police investigation into the death of a diabetic Sydney boy this week.

They say his practice sounds more like a cult than a legitimate procedure.

Police are investigating the controversial practice — which involves slapping the body until it bruises in a bid to “drive out poisons’’ — after seven-year-old Aidan Fenton died while attending one of Mr Xiao’s slapping workshops in Hurstville on Monday with his parents Geoff and Lily.

They are said to be devastated by their son’s death.

They [and the quack chinese doctor] may still be charged if it is found the child was taken off his normal diabetic medication.
    Investigations are continuing.
