Just wondering if anyone here cuts their own hair and how long have you been doing this?

I don't but do know of a few friends that they cut their hair or their wife cuts it for them. The ones who cut it themselves are bald but their hair does grow back over time.

I do. I have paid for 2 haircuts in the past 12 or so years. Its not about the money, I just don't like the hassle. I am not bald, not that there is anything wrong with that.

    Haven't had a haircut in 20 years, so I guess it's a N/A here lol.

I've been doing it for a couple years. It's easy when you cut them all to the same length (1/4").

By the way I did have hair down to my waist many moons ago but one day while working with my gas welding I caught it on fire so removed most of it after that experience. I enjoyed my long hair while I could but knew it was time to shorten it when this incident occurred.

I've been cutting mine for several years as well. I wear it shorter now (than when I was younger) and I'm balding in the back so I keep things short.

I like saving the money but it's avoiding the hassle and the convenience of a commercial haircut that I like the best. Plus I can get a trim at any time when I do it.

I just recently did the #2 guard all over buzz cut (which is quite a bit shorter than my usual style) but I think I'll let the front grow out a bit.

I cut mine... grade-1 when I cut it... leave it until it gets a bit messy (2 months or so)... repeat process.
Saves time, money, hassle, effort just to do it myself whenever I want.

I cut mine the old fashioned way, with scissors...

That's been my standard for many years, ever since I cut off the ponytail (too much hassle on a bike). Short enough to catch a breeze in the heat and fit the hats, long enough to avoid the quick return of scraggle and social overtones from looking like I shaved my head, works for the beard at the same time.

I trim the earline and neckline at 0, same clippers with the guard off.

It's not difficult, btw, and takes less than 20 minutes including cleanup - I'm surprised more people don't do it. You can get the back even by sound and feel, at the #2 length - it's just bristly enough to feel different from even slightly longer hair, and you can hear the clippers hit any missed patches. Mow in a couple of different directions all over.

I'm thinking about using a #1 just up to top of ear height (all around the head) and maybe allowing the top to grow a little longer and a little longer in front.

All that mainly just to not have it all be so uniform.

I wouldn't risk it as it might grow back unevenly unless i was going to shave my head.

It's difficult to reach and see, so I only cut the tops by myself. For major hair interventions I visist a hairdresser, but it's hard to find a good one you like. I had a good one in my former neighbourhood, but am too lazy to go there, but am considering anyway, because she was really a perfectionist.

Been doing it for over twenty years now, first with a cutter that looks like a comb with a razor blade inside it..now I bought electric trimmer and that works pretty good too.I have triple mirrors turned in such a way to see all sides and back and working slowly carefully it's not so difficult to make a decent trim..

When I was eighteen I was working on construction, shovelling gravel. An inspector from the Labour Ministry showed me a regulation stating that hair should be trimmed so that it wouldn't get caught in machinery, etc. I told him I wasn't too concerned about getting my hair caught in a shovel.

I had my last haircut when I was nineteen.

How true, I've not seen anyone's hair caught in a shovel either. When mine went up in flames I had a bandana around my head that I thought would keep my hair pulled back enough not to get it caught on fire but I was very wrong and before I knew it my hair went up very quickly. I did put it out before any major burn happened so that was one good thing out of the ordeal. We didn't have any regulations about length of hair in the plumbing/electrical trades so that many of us had long hair.
