Below is a good article on the war and how it is affecting Russians. Impoverished Russians are being offered huge salaries to fight in Ukraine, ten or more times their usual wages. And if they die or become disabled, they and their families are not getting paid what was promised them.

Russians yearn for the glory days of czarist Russia. Somebody needs to remind them, Russians overthrew the czars.

Apparently Russia is offering freedom to criminals if they go to Ukraine and fight. The man interviewed in the referenced article is a Russian criminal who is commanding Ukrainian "rebel" forces.

"It took some time to discover what “Motorola” did before coming to Donbass. He offered virtually no reliable information. But with the assistance of some Russian colleagues we were able to pull together what appears to be an accurate, if brief, sketch:

It turned out that he had been living in Rostov near the Ukraine border for the last few years, working at a car wash. He had serious problems with Rostov’s police after he went on a drunken joyride in a car stolen from the car wash. Given a choice between going to prison and going to Donbass, he chose the latter. Virtually all the information about his subsequent adventures in the war appear to be myths cooked up by Russian media: “Motorola” is merely a brand created by the Special Forces.

Today “Motorola” rents an apartment in Donetsk for 2,500 hryvnias (currently about $106) a month and moves around in a Lada Niva that was gifted to him by right-wing Russian parliamentarian Vladimir Zhirinovsky."

Wow, a small blip of a rebound, let's make Putin the new Emperor of the galaxy so he can run our economies too. Fact is Russia's fundamentals are still screwed up, they're running a petro state import-based economy, financial sanctions remain in place, debts are climbing, millions are going hungry. Well at least Vodka's cheaper now and there's always Krokodil for the more adventurous. All the same, I still argue that Russia and its enablers should be completely isolated from all trade, travel and military cooperation with the West until they've fucked off from Ukraine and Georgia; let the fetal alcohol bastards freeze.

"Mother Russia"? What are we 8?

I simply find it funny how the MSM tells Americans they should hate *insert national identity* and like good little cogs, Americans mindless line up in droves for a chance at playing cannon fodder in some Oligarch's war somewhere.

One year Communist China bad, and we should bomb them flat. The next year Communist China good, and looky at my shiny new iPad.

Currently Russian Oligarchs, such as Putin, aren't letting piss-ants like our Dear Vice President's son (who has oil interests in Ukraine) outright steal those natural resources and so the American propaganda machine has to convince American imbeciles they should care. Oh, and maybe ever 'get a job' killing other people who wave different Made-In-China flags through the dumb-luck of geographical location of birth. You know, because that's important - to a Cog.

Thus, I find it no surprise there's not one, but TWO threads disparaging Russia.

Oh, never mind the NSA and Police State of America. Never mind the criminally insane Monarchy in KSA we support. Never mind Americans invaded Iraq, resulting in over a million people dead (many of whom are women and children); low-grade uranium dust covering numerous cities, trillions of dollars wasted in another bullshit fake, and lost, war. Never mind who the real aggressors are. Us. We are the ones who make up bullshit reasons to invade nations that happen to have resources we'd prefer to steal than pay for. We are the ones who prop up dictators like those in the KSA. Us. Not "Mother Russia". "Mother America" is doing that.

Let's see what your TV tells you to care about next. And Joe, as a Statist, you'd be much more at home in Russian than I. Don't worry, Police State America really isn't that different.
    * Government School 'Authorities' and Police Handcuffed 4 YEAR OLD CHILD and place him in detention for 'Questioning'.
    * "Free" American Citizen / Tax Chattel sent to jail after failing to maintain his lawn
    * Man known to GASP illegally sell 0.50 cent cigarettes without a State Licence is LEGALLY strangled to death by Police

If you like Mother Russia so much and if things are so great in Mother Russia as you claim, why are you not living there? It's kind of comical and hypocritical for you to complain about 2 threads on Russia. How many anti-American threads and posts have you started and contributed to over the years? Countless....

Do you live in Russia? Are you Russian? Have you ever been to Russia? Do you have family in Russia? I'm going to guess no. So why do you care about Russia?

And here's an interesting point: You seem to LIKE the idea that the Russian economy could fail. You created an entirely different thread talking about how the Russian economy is going to go into the shitter, and you did so gleefully. Why? Well, partly because that thing in your living room told you this is something you need to care about. It also told you that Russia is bad because "P-U-T-I-N". Now this is the interesting thing, you seem to understand living in a society run by Oligarchs who control the levers of STATE POWER is, in some way, not so good.

Now, recall how our Oligarchs made up a PHONY WAR to invade Iraq, recall that we've killed millions of people in phony wars and prop up Dictators. Recall that the Military Industrial Complex is owned by American Oligarchs. Recall that our Oligarchs here, just used the State to bail themselves out. Recall that the top 0.01% of America is richer now - than at any time in history. Recall that the standard of living in the USSA continues to degrade as we bail out the very people who should instead be in jail. Recall that I'm American and so is my family. NOW, here's the tricky part Joe. Try and apply that teeny tiny bit of reasoning you used to think "Putin Bad" and apply that to the USA.

See, I promise, thinking isn't as hard as it may at first appear to be.

Now, let's all enjoy the New Economy and our GLORIOUS "Great Recovery" - it's going to be 'recovering' for many decades to come.

No, I don't live in Mother Russia. I live in the USA. Why would I want to live in Mother Russia? I am not always complaining about the USA as you are Michael, nor do I extol the virtues of Mother Russia as you do Michael.
So how do you know what I like the idea the Russian economy could fail? If you read my posts you would know otherwise. I created a thread on the Russian economy that is true. And given the dire straits the Russian economy is in, hyperinflation and recession, it’s a fact the Russian economy is in the shitter. And if I appeared, gleeful, it was because I had quadrupled my investment betting against the Russian economy. That had nothing to do with that thing in my living rooms, entertainment rooms and bedrooms. It had everything to do with fact and reason, things to which you are unaccustomed Michael.

Putin is bad because he has repeatedly invaded his neighbors and confiscated their lands. But you apparently think that is ok or you just believe whatever Putin tells you through his state controlled press. It’s fact that Russia’s economy is suffering as a direct result of Putin’s repeated violation of international law. If you know anything about history Michael, you should notice the similarities between what Putin and done and what Hitler did. I don’t suppose you have any proofs Putin didn’t invade his neighbors? Do you have any proofs the Western media misreported events in Georgia and Ukraine? If you do, now is the time to show it. Of course you don’t have proofs. You never do.
We have been down this road numerous times over the years Michael. While it is true there is a wealth inequality problem in the US, that doesn’t mean the financial bailouts only bailed out the rich, as explained to you umpteen times over the years the bailouts, they bailed everyone out - especially the middle class because they had the most to loose. But you just cannot wrap your head around that very simple fact – probably because it is at odds with your ideological beliefs. And do you really think wealth inequality is better in Mother Russia? In any case your solution, giving the reins of government to the uber wealthy, the top .o1%, isn’t going solve the wealth inequality problem.

Violence in the region is once again escalating as Russia has beefed up its military presence in the region. Some speculate Putin will launch a renewed invasion. Ukrainian leaders outright claim Russia is planning to invade their borders en masse.
