    Egypt has responded..

EGYPT has launched airstrikes against Islamic State targets in Libya after the extremist group released a grisly video showing the beheading of several Coptic Christians it had held hostage for weeks.

A spokesman for the Armed Forces General Command announced the strikes on state radio Monday, marking the first time Cairo has publicly acknowledged taking military action in neighboring Libya, which has been beset by militia violence for months.

The statement said the warplanes targeted weapons caches and training camps before returning safely. It said the strikes were “to avenge the bloodshed and to seek retribution from the killers.”

“Let those far and near know that Egyptians have a shield that protects them,” it said.

The graphic video showing 21 Egyptian Christians being beheaded in Libya as a “message signed with blood to the nations of the cross”.

“We will conquer Rome,” one of the executioners warns after committing the bloody act.

“The sea you have hidden Osama bin Laden’s body in, we will mix it with your blood”.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IS beheaded eight Egyptians inside Egypt last month.

The Egyptian government declared a seven-day mourning period and President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi convened an emergency national security meeting to discuss a response. El-Sissi sent condolences to “the victims of terrorism,” according to a statement released by the presidency.

Can't say I blame them. And there may be more Egyptians detained by ISIS.

Am I the only one who notices that in all video displayed over the last few years, all victims appear to be placid and offer no resistance to what they know is imminent death?
I wonder what happened to resistance by the condemned?

I have wondered that myself. But who knows how many mock executions go on. Or how many edits to the videos removing all traces of resistance. Or other tortures that leave a captive with a desire for it to finally be over. And maybe (though it doubt it) they are drugged.

Yes.. a friend suggested similar but when you consider the sometimes large numbers involved aka 1700 surrendered Iraq soldiers (Tikrit) - in the early days. ( Mass trench grave, mass executions )...
How such a large number of apparently fit and trained men could just placidly accept their executions is source for concern IMO.

    video: Associated press - non-graphic.
    confirmed deaths <700 (*?)

One of the keys to this, I believe, is to ask ourselves :
"What exactly are they intending to demonstrate with their sometimes elaborate demonstration killings?"
    rather than asking :
"What do we see being demonstrated?"
we need to ask: "What do they see being demonstrated?"
The apparent placidity and acceptance of and by the victim is definitely a significant part of that demonstration IMO

Strange I had that very thought this evening. As in, you have to get a hold of my throat before you can cut into it.

I have never watched their videos but have wondered if they show the entire act. I have mixed feelings about all of the news coverage giving these goons a platform.

I think the 1700 was a total, not a single event. As I remember it, it was groups of people, surrounded by a bunch of gun toting psychos. Not a lot of time to think.

Plus, this region has had its armed checkpoints; self-proclaimed vigilante groups; a former brutal regime that tossed people into prison for no apparent reason. I guess its like people living in chicago under the threat of stray bullet fire. I wouldnt live there, I dont fully understand why people do but then, you become accustomed/complacent with the reality of your situation. Maybe the, "they wouldnt kill a fellow muslim".... it is supposed to be against the rules.

We are only shown what the media wants us to see. Where are the thousands of dead ISIS military? Seems the media only wants us to become enraged over the murders to fan the fires of war so that the arms dealers get more money and the military does as well for new weapons.
