Does anyone feel that if this planet had one language and one language only, there would be less conflict?
Let's see the KKK morons speak english...Black people who are hated by the KKK speak english....so no, one language will not cause less conflict just a loss of subtitles in movies and costs jobs for people who dub movies....
Huh? what does that mean...i am sorry could you rephrase that...Do you mean it could cause less problems in Commerse?
sorry I havent slept in a while I mean I think trading inbetween contries makes wars and conflict less likely.
No it would cause more conflict for me, instead of muttering about people in Japanese under my breath, they would understand what I was saying and then proceed to kick my ass. I don't need that many arch enemies.
Ah but Valentino, if you could argue in the same language you could just as easily nurture friendship.
I don't think these people would want to be my friend if they knew what I was saying about them. Bwahaha!!!
Well, you would miss the detailed compassion exchanged between cultures, but you would miss the hatefull remarks as well. I don't think it would prevent war because war is ignorant and uncivilized. If Osama Bin Ladin spoke english, would Bush have let him go? Ignorance knows no language.
I'da tayin dat mista nevis bee up to somethang... Deffinatilee. I'd also be saying that different cultures are probably a bigger setback than languages in this regard. And then the fact that people for the most part are narrowsighted assholes, that's a pretty big problem too... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Some people would argue that Blacks don't speak English, but a severely distorted derivative of English.
There is a very big difference between wondering if a universal language would help avoid conflicts and wanting to impose a dictorial regime on the planet enforcing one language...
I dont know what part of scotland you come from but i dont know anyone that talks like that only Willy from the Simpsons. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Hail boy, you ain't gone genr'lizin' 'bout folks like that, it down right invid'yes ya hear. I certainly don't, launguage is a way for expressing individuality and nationality, just as it can be a barrier and cause missunderstanding it can be a bridge and a way of establishing a mutual (perhaps private) communication.
brits would say the same thing about americans. americans would say the same thing about Canadiens Canadiens would say that same thing about Aussies. poor aussies.
The speakers of these different dialects of English can understand each other. Someone who has never heard Ebonics will have a lot of difficulty understanding it if they even can understand it. Ebonics is often considered a seperate language.
what's the difference between a language and a dialect? a language has an army. well see that whole thing about understanding depends. there are plenty of words in British that i have no idea what the hell they are talking about. same with other dialects of english. I wonder if so called "ebonics" is really much more different than "standard english" (which doesn't exist if you're a descriptive linguist) than any other dialect. if you ask me it's just politics.
