    No.

Fortunately this person cannot in the particular position. But is it out of place to be subjected to constant bullshit from a moderator who can't do math and get annoyed? In the Physics and Math section. And, the moderator, constantly boast that they have a Ph D?

    Billy T disgusts me.

With that in mind, why should anyone trust the moderation staff?

I just have to ask... if something(s) BillyT has/have said is/are wrong... why not simply prove it wrong?

    Seems... simple enough a solution?

Or is that too simple for a moderator who boasts having a Ph D in physics to understand.

Do the moderators sentence the forum itself to being nothing but garbage?

This isn't just a Moderator issue.

For a while we've queried what type of site sciforums.com is suppose to be, should threads in Maths and Physics be locked to just those passages that are taught and understood by the professional community or should it allow everyone with their personalised viewpoints on any given subject to post. If it's the former, then you'd find a huge number of threads stripped away from there since most of the time what petty bickering can occur there is purely down to those personalised view sets that one member (moderator) or other might have.

Or should the subforum be open to all weird and wonderful renditions (with a heavy warning on entry to "adjust your bullsh** filter")

Moderators have never truly seen eye to eye on this because for one this is a discussion forum for the most part, it does mean that discussion comes in all shapes and sizes. Moderators aren't necessarily quality control, that for the most part is really down to the members that post their content and other members in regards to how they view it. If we just have one report on a thread from one member it can become a problem to identify if an action should take place, since while indeed the member that reports might have a point, acting on their report alone is like granting them moderation powers by proxy. (Moderators can then become puppets of abuse)

So it's suggested (to all members) that if you think a thread or post breaks some rules or moral code, report it. The more of you that report a particular post the higher the chances that it will be dealt with. I'm pretty sure you can Report Moderator posts even if you can't ignore moderators, this will open an internal audit of whatever that post is with all moderators. super-moderators and administrators having the ability to make considerations of the reporters POV.

(In short Beer, just report Billy T's posts if you find them offensive, off-topic or just plain wrong, much like you can with any moderators post... even my own :/ )

Some do, and blatantly. Don't know about Billy. Doesn't seem to as far as I can tell.

    actually, it was, numerous times.
the result is fingers in ears screaming " na na na. "
with a comment of " prove it "

It's all about egg shells Geoff, you'd be surprised how often any action requires walking across them.

I just like honest and objective. What happened to that? When did we get to mollifying unwarranted egotistical suppositions?

It's really down to missives etc. The moderators currently are an oligarchy, where some might want wield absolute control over every action (be it theres or others), others realise the spirit of the internet is suppose to be about open uncensored (for the most part) communication, as censoring (especially when Mollifying) can lead to miscommunication.

The problem is striking a balance, if the moderators become too unruly like a Roman senate, James ends up being called on as some sort of Pontifex (To preach where people are wrong and create balanced considerations).

Unfortunately it's not quite the same as having a Personnel Manager who'd want a specific job based upon certain criteria, that if not met would involve finding a replacement for the job position.

Organisation has always been the "keen" issue. (Not blades of a Roman sciforums senate, since they can be blunt as they come.)

Careful, someone (not me) might claim that's an advertisement and ban you :/

Let's see Billy's response, or he might be too high and mighty to respond to peasants.

Peasants that quote textbooks I may add.

    :EDIT:

Oh an yeah, this forum is worthless in learning anything especially if if a moderator is allowed to spout bullshit. It's criminal.

    Wait a minute..

You want people to report posts they believe are wrong?

What happened to posting to correct the wrong via debate? Providing the correct information and discussing it?

If we are going to encourage people to report posts they believe are wrong, then we might as well just get rid of the text box and replace it with a giant fat red report button.

Because as it stands, that report function is being abused. Reporting spam posts, abuse, breach of this site's rules, certainly. That is what the button is there for.

But we are getting reports with requests that people's posts be edited, that people's posts are factually incorrect and heaven knows what else. That is not what the report function is designed for.

And if someone has an issue with a moderator or a complaint, then take it to admin. If you are unable to solve the issue with the moderator via PM, for example, then please take it to admin. Starting obscure threads such as this one, where it took 2 pages or so to figure out who the OP was even talking about and then why, because the OP wanted to trash them is not the best way to go about it.

While I understand Beer is frustrated, and believe me, I understand that level of frustration when dealing with some people on this site, even staff members, a better option would be to PM James R with their concerns, provide links of the problem posts and explain why these posts do not belong there, should be removed, etc.

I certainly hope you are joking.

I have never used the Report feature much. I mostly stay in the Science section and there are times that a discussion devolves into what should clearly be a subject carried out somewhere in the Fringe. Would that be a Report issue or a PM issue.., and sometimes it is not even clear who on staff you should PM. With the new platform I have not yet seen where Moderator and Staff areas of authority is defined.
