When you watch the following short video, it shows a clip of Superman taking a bullet in the eye. Now I've been an avid Superman fan pretty much all my life, and it's never been explained in any credible way how a living being could be that invulnerable. I would like to explore some possibilities that might explain what it would take for a real Superman to exist. Never mind the yellow sun explanation.

    Welcome back Killjoy.

Wearing an exoskeleton could protect from many things and helmets which have bulletproof glass for visors.

The like was for the welcome. But I was thinking more along the line of something to alter the matter that makes up the living body. First, what changes to the atomic structure of an atom might do the trick? What would happen if the charge strength of the protons an electrons in the atom could be doubled?

    1. The attraction between the protons an electrons would be much stronger and I can imagine the atom shrinking in size do to a much tighter electron cloud around the nucleus.

    2. Smaller atoms will still be the same elements, but with a much more dense structure and the forces between atoms will be much stronger. At some point a bullet made out of regular ordinary matter would not be able to do any damage to the new super strength matter.

    3. Besides just changing the charge strength, a way to alter the effect of gravity would be needed so as the Superman doesn't weigh so much he crushes everything he steps on.

I'm thinking the Superman would have a specialized organ that reprocesses ordinary matter into super matter that can be used by the Superman.

Ever notice, in the old Superman series circa 1950? Superman man would stand there laughingly with his hands on his hips as the bad guy fired his gun at him. Then when the bad guy would fling the empty gun at him in frustration, he'd always put his hands up to protect his head and duck!

No I don't remember that. Perhaps you could find a video to post that would illustrate that. I barely remember those old black and white weekly shows. I do remember that Superman had to take a running start then jump to start flying.

Just because you are indestructible doesn't mean you will let anything smash into your face if it can be avoided.

I didn't see it that way. Rag-doll indeed. However when I was a kid watching those black & whites was better than not. Can't say I would want to watch them today though. As videos get better, so does the Superman fantasy.

Hey, do you remember what black kryptonite does to Superman. I remember one episode with black kryptonite, but can't remember what the effects were.

I actually never heard of most of them.
