Out of everything on this world, the one thing I fear most is the death of a loved one. Why do we fear for others over ourselves?

Personally, I'm afraid for myself as much as my loved ones. The question "is it over forever?" is terrifying.

    Honestly?
    Not being insulting here...
I think it is mostly selfishness.

It is the realization that we would have to live the rest of our lives without these poeple.

It is our fear of being lonely without them to comfort and provide whatever it is that particular person provides in our life.

If WE die, we don't have to deal with that loss.

Yes I would agree with that.
Also they are part of your gene pool and we naturally want to defend them to ensure their gene's are passed on as well as our own. We are a "pack animal" of sorts.
It is most definately selfish in some way, altruism doesn't exist among humans, in fact it exists very rarely among all the animals of earth. Even seemingly altruistic behaviours displayed by some species are usually done for some peek or benefit the individual will recieve for behaving that way.
Ants are an exception, but it is believed that a colony of ants is ,for all intents and purposes, one large organism.

my greatest fear is not being able to use my legs.... being confined to a wheelchair. what's the point of living if all you do is sit in a chair all day?

What's the point of living if you can't use your arms anymore? Or what about your eyes or ears?

So One-raven, you believe that people are selfish over the welfare of those they love and trust because they don't want to feel alone? Well, I suppose you're right. But then, who would? I mean, it'd be torture for me to go on knowing that I can't play tennis with my friends aren't there anymore or spending time with my girlfriend sitting under a tree admiring the sunset. You see, when you lose a special person in your life, whether it be friend or love, you lose a part of yourself. And you can never regain that part, no matter how hard or how long you try. I think I'll shut up for now. . .

I've had this fear recently but we must control ourselves and realize that everything here is temporary. We must take this as a learning experience. Even losing loved ones.

    CHEER UP.

IT SEEMS THAT EVERYONES GREATEST FEAR IS RELYING ON THEYRE OWN MINDS FOR THEYRE HAPPINESS.GENERALLY IT IS BELEIF IN AN AFTER WORLD THAT CREATES SUCH A FEELING OFF LOSS. WHEN YOU BELEIVE IN AN AFTER WORLD YOU KIND OF SPLIT YOUR SELF FROM THE REAL WORLD.EXISTENCE EXISTS.IF THE NEXT WORLD IS SO MUCH BETTER AND YOUR STILL IN THIS ONE THEN ITS LIKE YOUR KIND OF JUST WAITING TO BEGIN LIVING.IF YOU WOULD REALIZE THAT THIS IS THE ONLY REALITY THEN YOU WOULD TAKE THIS LIFE MUCH MORE SERIOUSLY AND BEGIN TO LOVE EVERYBODY AS MUCH AS YOU CAN WHILE THEY ARE STILL HERE ON EARTH.NOT HOLDING BACK ANYTHING. THAT THIS IS YOUR ONLY LIFE. MAKE THE BEST OF IT.YOUR DIGGING YOURSSELF AN EMOTIONAL HOLE OF WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE INSTEAD OF FILLING YOURSELF UP WITH THE LOVE THAT IS REAL AND TRUE NOW.STOP HOLDING BACK AND STOP THE EXCUSES.THE FACT OF ANOTHERS EXISTENCE PAST OR PRESENT WHO HELD ANY VALUE TO YOU SHOULD BE A VALIDATION OF YOUR OWN HAPPINESS, NOT A LOSS. just a thought.

    moementum7:

Right under your "tab" key there is a key that says "caps lock". Between your left and right "alt" keys there should be a long, rectangular key. This is called the "space bar".

Don't be afraid to use either of these keys.

It's attachment. Loved ones are special to you, and you almost convince yourself you'll always have them. You never think when leaving them : "They'll be hit by a bus in ten minutes, this is the last time I'll see them."

It's that that's the problem, I believe. For want of a better analogy, it's like being in a warm comfortable bed, and then having freezing cold ice water thrown over you. Nobody's ever going to find that transition a pleasant one.
